Best air show
Not been since I was a kid (looong time ago. Probably only had tiger moths.lol)
Love to take my kids to one (and me) that they would really enjoy. Midlands area preferably.
Anyone been recently? Recommendations?
Many thanks!

Used to go to some good ones but now sadly long gone
Mildenhall in the 70's lots of yank exotica SR-71 , Phantoms & F1-11's & the grandaddy of them all Vulcan
Hearne back in the 80's used to to have a wide range of international stuff
Starfighter's were it;s highlight
Daedelus in the 90's mainly navy stuff but the odd surprise - Vulcan, Starfighters, Harriers
Up until now Shoreham was a good local one for me, but watching matey boy plough in, and realising how close we came to buying the farm ourselves made us rethink our priorities -- Also no more Vulcan flying, that was our main draw
Les who used to frequent this parish was a Vulcan pilot - amazing guy to meet

I have been to many air shows over the years, all over the county (I used to work at them).
In my opinion the best air show is the one with the best weather (dry with high cloud cover), the best (cheapest) parking, ease of getting in and out, least traffic congestion etc.
As far as the show itself is concerned, they are all more or less same: Static display, and flying display. The only real variable is the variety and amount of aircraft.
If there is a particular plane you want to see, then that's the one you should go to.
Its not hard to get to any display in the UK, so don't just stick to your own area.
A decent camera can get you some lasting memories. I took this one at an airshow in Malta.

Best show I've ever been to has always been Fleet Air Arm Yeovilton - always cracking and a lovely area to visit to mix with a short break.

Best one in the Midlands Area is RAF Cosford - just off the M54 - sort of between Wolverhampton and Telford.
Its been a major summer Airshow and very good (free!) museum for years and years.

this one that is a few miles from me is
http://littlegransdenairshow.co.uk/
an old WW2 fighter airfield - has a classic car show too
I went a few years ago with my sons - good fun, and lots of low flying Spitfires / Hurricanes and 3 gorgeous P5D Mustangs etc
but no Jets, they update the list of Planes and Cars as the event gets closer
it is quite low key - very British, lost of warm beer and blokes with beards full white froff drinking from tankards
not far from the a14 / a1

Took my two kids to RIAT last summer, amazingly my 14 year old daughter enjoyed it more than my 6 year old son.
Getting in and out was far easier than I expected considering the roads into the area from the M4 are country roads.
Excellent Static and Flying displays
Farnborough on public days is also a good one for a variety of aircraft.

Ive been to RIAT twice and think its a great show, not been to any others to compare it though. Its the sweet smell of fuel in the air that gets me as well as the noise.

RIAT at Fairford is always excellent.

only downside was the trees quickly hid it. I know war is bad but I bet it was amazing to see a squadron fly over back in the day.
whats our flagship bomber now?
oh and I’m taking my 3yr old to our first air show in duxford in sept. Excited 😬
