Default Do you have a business that accepts debit/credit card payment?

If so could you tell me how much you are charged by your card processing company for a debit card payment. I know this will vary depending on who handles your card business but I just need a rough idea.

I am being stitched up by a supplier who charged me 2% for a DEBIT card payment and I know his actual cost will be much lower. This on a £2000 bill.

Supplier has also charged me VAT and after a check with VAT office I established that company is not VAT registered.

I don't like being ripped off so I am having a go. And the last people you want to upset are the VAT guys

Cheers, David

Sound like a bunch of c$$$s!
Do you have a bill or receipt with the VAT showing?
I think that is probably fraud & the VAT man/police would be very interested so you would have some powerful evidence.

Yes I have all the evidence. I have reported him to the VAT boys and Action Fraud Police. Tomorrow I will discuss with Trading Standards.

I have now sent him a bill for £900 for VAT refund and other costs I incurred and said if he doesn't pay I will find other clients of his and suggest that they also claim the VAT back if he has charged them. I will also arrange a by-line in his local paper headed "Local Company Defrauds Disabled Pensioner". If he breaks into my home and attacks me I will stick a knife in his leg.

We charge 2% but only for CREDIT CARD transactions, we are charged roughly the same amount (although more on AMEX) but we stick at 2%.

We are charged nothing for DEBIT CARD transactions, BUT that's not to say others are the same.

If you get one of those card payment doohickeys, such as iZettle, Square, PayPal etc then you will be charged between 1.5%-2.75% depending on throughput/company. Worldpay charges me 2.5% on all web transactions currently, whatever the card.

I think you will find that card processing companies now charge a percentage for Visa Debit cards rather than the old fixed charge.

We are with Worldpay (streamline) and used to be charged 18p for a debit card but it's now 0.6%.

You might find these useful.

Typically there is no VAT on transactions but maybe on hire fees etc.
