Private Plate
Bought a new car on Tuesday, sent all the paperwork off the the DVLA for my reg transfer. Would I be safe putting the plates back on today? The garage said I should be fine.

Doing it online looks easy enough to be honest.
Just took a number plate off my car to put on retention and it gave me the cars original number to put back on.
It said do it as soon as possible as the tax and mot were still covered. Just inform the Insurance company of the new reg number put on car.
Gave me a retention cert number and the document should be with me in 3-5 days.
I think my plate can also be put straight on another car now actually ,using the retention number.
Fairly simple.

Yeah , online is great. I bought a reg and sent away all the paperwork. Got it all back a week later coz the seller hadn't signed one bit. Phone DVLA and he said i had to have it signed. I was annoyed as it meant I'd have to send it to the seller just for a signature.
He said "just do it online". I asked how do u get the signature online ? He said i dont need it.
So why didn't they just process the paperwork ? Jobsworths probably.
5 mins online had it sorted , phoned to inform insurance , stuck plate on.

This is because the transfer will not go ahead if they find any errors in the paperwork (they just post it back to you with a covering letter)
I cannot believe that a garage has told you it should be fine !

If you have sent the paperwork by post (rather than an online transfer), you can't put the new plate on until you receive notification from the DVLA.

They say they posted back corrected one, after losing second attempt, on the 21st, been told can't pit my plate on it until it comes back correct.
