Default Process to follow for car restoration?

Finally after 3 years of using my 98 sti as a daily driver (and slowly improving the engine mods but ignoring the chassis) I have a garage in which i can work on my car!

The car is going off the road as of this weekend (have a Focus and a 650CBF to use instead).

Whats the process for the restoration and any tips from what you guys have learnt over time? I'm going to be doing the majority of this myself/with my bro.

So far the plan is:
  • remove trim , sound deadening, all interior
  • remove wheels, brakes, suspension
  • remove engine + ancillaries
  • remove gearbox + drivetrain
  • remove exhaust
  • remove all suspension parts, trailing arms, brackets, everything under car, send off to be sand blasted and powder coated.
  • replace parts where necessary
  • assess rust. remove all rust from arches, wings, boot floor
  • repair missing 'rusted' areas
  • tape up car + spray.
  • fit roll-cage (maybe a step earlier if needs spraying)
  • refit dash

then after that i'm pretty lost.

Is it just a restoration or a restoration and modification?

If your stripping it back to bare shell then have you though about fuel lines/ brake lines, replacement?

Whatever you've budgeted in time and money, double it and then you'll be near to the true cost.

yeh should I start by running the fuel lines inside the car? will be replacing the brake lines with braided lines also.

the budget is whatever really. I've got money each month spare and even more now i wont be spending £150+ a month on petrol (and insurance and tax!)
same for time there is no rush .

and its a resto/modification. Ill be looking to track it when its finished.

The only thing i can recommend Ash is what you use.

Bilt hamber is what i used on my Gravel express.

DYNAX S50

Extreme duty anti-corrosion wax for cavities, voids and long term protection. this is what i used for all panels behind, sills, scuttle, inner door skins to. the only panel i have not done yet is roof.

DYNAX-UB
dynax-UB is a high-performance anti-corrosion wax designed for car underbodies, this is what i use in the arches, underside.behind bumpers.

DYNAX-UC
See through long term anti-corrosion wax for bare metals or painted surfaces
And UC for under battery, scuttle, behind fuel flap.

Are try and put some pics up for you later as its been on my Gravel express a while now.

Im doing my 2003 sti at the mo, been on axle stands since november.

New thing i been trying on the sti is this.

ELECTROX
Zinc rich coating containing in excess of 93% in dry film, excellent long term corrosion protection

I also use this for.
FERROSOL
Water displacing multi-purpose lubricant.

Hope this helps a bit.
