RAF have just reported that they scrambled the two jets to take a close look at an 'unresponsive civilian airliner'.

Cant beat the sound of military jets being flown for real - awesome sight and sound.

Have heard the RAF and their ground crews referred to as Crabs or Crab Air for as long as I can recall - where does that term originate?

Not sure, although named after Crab lice cream (same colour as RAF uniform) is a popular explanation. They were always Crabs (disrespectful) when I was in the army except when they were called in to shoot up/bomb the enemy and get you out of trouble. Then they were Crab Air or even Star Trek.

Saw a couple of these Typhoons practicing whilst on a trip up through mid-Wales.

We're used to Tornados and old stuff in our neck of the woods but I was astounded at their amazing manoeuvrability. Superb aircraft!

When transport military personnel, Crab Air used to refer to us army types as Self Loading Cargo

We had one go supersonic over SE England to intercept a non responsive Jet too - last year I think

And it shook the house and was a genuinely WTF moment

Pretty impressive

On a side note saw a beautiful Spitfire fly over me this afternoon - superb

The bang from it was huge...I live 5 mins from the airport and used to hear the Vulcan every time it went out for a play...it made the Vulcan sound like a glider ...ever after the initial boom there was like rolling thunder after it.
Cool as....would of been better on a clear day to see it.
Impressive job for someone sat there waiting on the quick reaction, I assume it's the biggest adrenaline rush you could get.

The flip side being that if ever one of these events becomes 'real', the pilot might have to press the button which kills a load of civilians - that's quite a thing you'd have to live with IMO even if it was for the greater good.
