I've got a quote to fit a patio door, there is an older door to come out and a bit of wall/window to remove. The Lintel is already in place. The quote is £1500, I have no idea if this is good or not, does anyone off the top of their head have an opinion?

 

I've paid £800 year ago for sliding patio door.

You should be paying for 2 men for a day (at most) and disposal of material, i would say no more than 250-300 for the work. Does the 1500 include the door and plastering etc as well?

Ive recently paid £280 for 4 men to fit two patio doors which cost £650 each. Then the plasterer was on a day rate of £280 for 3 men to plaster the entire room.

Bloody hell , you have workers for £70 a day each ......
I'd be at home under the quilt.
Even £90 a day for a proper plasterer is low money

 

They were probably scallies No offence meant, I'm over that way later this year doing the Beatles/Cavern tours, really looking forward to it

 

Seems ok to me. If it's a proper UPVC company doing the job, check what profile the frame is.

I've got two other people coming to quote for me.

 

I had all my double glazing done not long ago and it included 1 set of french doors composite front and back rock doors and all disposal and the whole lot only cost 5k. that makes your single door at 1500 look very expensive.

 

A pair of French Doors 1800 x 2020 in white costs me £499.53 + VAT, Inc glass.

 

Get a quote for labour and any materials required minus the door and glass, there will be a profit to be made for them there, you could easily get it to around £1k sourcing the door yourself, plenty of trade suppliers that will deliver to site too

 

I've asked for a break down of cost and have another company coming out to quote for me.

 

Personally i'd get three quotes, ideally on a recommendation from someone who has used the company.

 

haha no 1 tradesman directing and 3 no marks doing thats why it was cheap!

 

Guy who emailed thr 1.5k quote sent me a "break down" in the post .. it was the email printed out ..

 

 

second quote comes in at £1200

£300 for labour the rest in materials.

 

My friend had two windows and a patio door (doubles not sliding) fitted in 6 hours for £1700 all in yesterday. I'd say £1500 for just a door is a fair bit if standard UPVC Fare....
