I have an 8mm camcorder. What's the cheapest method of transferring video to my PC so I can edit them?

Also can anyone recommend a decent editing software package?

Cheers

Does the camcorder have a firewire output ? If you want to do video editing I'm affraid Apple really do lead the way. Current amchines come with iMovie which is very easy to use. If you want to do professional quality video then Final Cut is the daddy. Yoiu can alos brun to DVD with a SuperDrive and iDVD or DVD Studio Pro.

The camera doesn't have firewire, it just has standard RCA outputs. Anyone know of a cheap way of transferring to PC?

I have an Iomega Buzz... It's a card that fits inside your PC and allows you to input and output RCA.. Also comes with some video editting software which is OK... Might be interested in selling mine as I now have a notebook and firewire...

rik,

you may be better off with the DC10 to be honest... Although you can have the buzz for 20quid plus P&P. You do need a fairly powerful system to drive it as video editing can be hard work.. lots of data to shift.. The buzz comes as a scsi adapter card with an attached cable which runs up to a little box which has the RCA in and out connectors.. I have a sCSI harddrive also connected to the card for faster capture. It also comes with a lite version of MCI videowave which is OK.. Probably a good first step but I've now moved to firewire and Premiere which I find less tedious..

OK cheers,

Cripsin: YHM.

I'll have the Iomega Buzz if the Pinnacle systems Studio DC10 Plus proves to be out of my budget.

Thanks

Rik.

I know what you mean, but i'm making that DV leap - going for one of these and one of these i'll let you know if it was worth it or not, because i've been impressed with my 8mm stuff and adobe premiere - it's been loads of fun...

I have a Pinnacle systems Studio DC10 Plus for sale if you want it - make me an offer - comes with the S/W for editing, and you might get a bonus copy of Adobe Premier 6 if you play your cards (scuse the pun) right.....

InvisibleMan,
You're semi right, this was a bain for me for some time, but if you go to Pinnacle you'll see that they have a driver update for the card now, just came too late for me, I bought a Radeon all in wonder...but it does work for W2K
