Default Fizzy apple juice......

Neighbour gave me a litre of fresh apple juice the day I arrived out in France, Thursday last week. She just picks up the windfalls, runs them through a pulper and squeezes the juice...no washing etc.

Yesterday the bottle inexplicably fell over.......inexplicably until I picked it up to find it tight as a drum and the bottom gone round.

I let the pressure off, and drank two glasses, with added Pernod, with my tea.

Now I'm fizzy too.......

The best ever apple juice I find is in Caribbean. Freshly squeezed green apple juice is so mouth watering and refreshing that you wouldn't want to go all floppy with any rum at all. Well, unless your taste buds are used to and prefer harsh alcohol taste.

The other one is tamarind juice over there. That's even better than the green apple juice!

The natural yeast present on the apples will have caused it to start to ferment. They'll be a little bit of alcohol in it but not much. Takes several months to make proper cider through natural fermentation.

Does it f**k! They may be tropical crops but they're different things with different taste; with different capacity to get different taste buds going. Different aftermath as well.

Don't drink too much guava juice or you'll be running to the bog every two mins like alkazar, without having to have the juice fermented.

I love tamarinds. Could eat them all day long. Haven't tried the juice though but based on your recommendation I'll give it a go next year when I'm in the Caribbean.

I love them, too! You can make your own tamarind juice, if you can get hold them from some ethnic food shop. All you have to do is boil them in water, cool it down, add some sugar and a pinch of salt to suit your taste, strain it and then pour it out in glasses with some ice cubes in. You can stick some fresh mint in it, if you like. Very nice indeed.

I do prefer them in Caribbean, though. That's because someone else makes it for you. I'm sure you'll enjoy drinking it, there.
