Default PAYE 0T tax code

I changed jobs (new company) on 1st September - I note on my pay statement that the tax code shows as 0T which I understand from the HMRC website is an emergency tax code, it states the following;

"Tax code 0T can also be used as a temporary code. It means you don’t get any Personal Allowance you’re entitled to until your tax code is updated."

I am assuming the overpayment will be recouped once HR / Payroll process my P45? Do I need to claim this back from HMRC or is it taken care of by my employer? Bit miffed that this has happened as HR were given a copy of my P45 on day one by email with the original posted to them a couple of days later.

You can always call them they are pretty good if you are willing to wait the 45 plus mins to get through.

If they have your details and you can tell them anything they need they will reissue you a new code in the post, although when I did it July I didnt get the letter until month later lol.

It's usual to have a 0T coding when you don't submit a P45 or P46

First thing to do is confirm HR have the original P45 as copys ate not valid, if not then call the HMRC and let them know you have changed job. They will issue a new code to your employer which will produce a refund or reduction next month
