Default Watch help needed Rolex

Hi All

Found this in granddads shed.

It says its a Rolex Oyster Explorer II

What can I check to see if its geniune? Probably just a knock off

The Bezel wasn't with it but we found it seperately so unsure if it goes with the watch.

Piccies:

I would go into Northern Goldsmiths as they sell Rolex so you can ask the staff there

Just going by the date window alone, I have doubts as to the authenticity.. Mind you, the fact it was in the shed speaks volumes.

Popping the back off and looking at its workings would give the most obvious clues.

Not only could it be a fake. But bear in mind many old Rolexes can be "bitsa" wastches; a Rolex watch that's made from bits of this and bits of that. So it maybe a Rolex case, but have the incorrect workings for that model, or dial etc.

But for what its worth; The area of the case around the winder doesn't look right to me.

Oh, and if its for probate (not sure if it is)...its ALWAYS a fake

Thanks Ali my other half is going to take it into town next week.

It was with a few other watches, Vintage Mickey Mouse Watches and TinTin watches, a Seiko and a Certina with Sadamn Hussain on the face

I am not a watch person and would like them to go to someone who appreciates them.

Oh on the Rolex it still works, although I thought it had stopped working but my partner said its perpetual.

Saddam hussain watches are not uncommon, many brands made them, some can be worth a few bob too.

Will try and get some piccies up. Yeah one of the Mickey Mouse ones seems to worth £200 but that is complete.

These have straps missing. Its difficult as nothing seems complete apart from a couple.

We have just come across some Jewellery which looks promising.

However would rather have my granddad here

I used to have a 1960's wind-up/mechanical Mickey mouse watch; I since found the prices on ebay were mental for the older (50's/60's) ones in good condition....not Rolex stuff, but £100 for a kids watch made me wish I'd taken better care of it.

Not sure what happened to it, I think it kept losing time, watch repairer condemned it and I was given a casio instead - which has its own retro following, but worth **** all LOL.
