Default Dog worry

A big tumour (they think) has appeared on our lovely 8 year old lab in her mouth- being cut out today and sent off for a biopsy. We fear the worst.

She's the most gentle, lovely black lab ever and still in great shape. It appeared very suddenly. Feeling rather sad (which may actually please some of the trolls psychos here)

Sorry to hear that Mattee, hope all is not lost. Many people don't understand how wonderful animals can be as companions and how they really do become part of the family.

Don't worry about the psycho trolls, they seem to save their venom for cats on SN!

Hope it works out nothing nasty and she makes a full recovery. My 2 labs are an integral part of my life and when something happens to them it will devastate me, i'll be lost without them.

Lump out, she seems fine but the vet isn't optimistic; we find out in about a week whether it's bad news or not.

Hope it's not bad news, had to have our 15 year old cat put to sleep last week, never nice especially when you have kids that are fond of them.

Sorry to hear that, we had to put our 13 year old down a month ago, still hurts and the house is feeling empty.

Hopefully yours will be ok and it'll not be the bad one, she still has plenty of years left in her so hopefully will get to see them, it's a tough choice if you have to make it but you will know if you need to as its best for her in the end.

Fingers crossed for you.

On the plus side, she has the cleanest teeth we've ever seen. £320 so far (our insurance covers non dental stuff; her uber teeth clean was over £100!) although that's pretty irrelevant.

Not wishing to sound negative but I would be pretty p!ssed with my vet if they were investigating a possible life threatening illness with one of my dogs and gave me a £100 bill to clean its teeth in the process.

To be honest, and not wanting to derail the thread (hope it all goes well, Mattee), but it does sound like something done by the franchise/chains you get these days like vets4pets. The aforementioned were constantly trying to up-sell me something and gave our dog a saline drip that wasn't needed (can't get near him with the clippers now ).

Sorry to hear this news Mattee! I know from personal experience how much a family dog means to everyone in their family.

Fingers crossed it is something that can be sorted out.

Thanks again everyone.
The weird thing is that she seems fine; running around like a loon last night, constantly wanting a ball thrown (she's not allowed for now); the only real evidence is a shaved area on her front leg. She's on fairly strong medication too but it's not slowing her down.

Fingers very crossed.

I hope everything is OK and she has plenty of years to live.
I would be devastated if something happened to our labrador.

Its common and sensible practice when they are under general annasthetic and they are in the mouth anyway. Also makes sense to check and clean everthing up as she'll have a wound in her mouth.

Sorry to hear that fella
My rotti years ago had it on his front leg (tennis ball size) , had him checked and he was riddled in it.
So hard to have them put to sleep (my mum took him as I couldn't do it)
