Dog worry
Genuinely sorry to hear that, Mattee. Remain positive - you never know! If the worst does happen - and I appreciate this will be scant consolation - just try to take solace in the fact you've given her the best life she could have had.
Thanks again all; we're seriously upset about this but as mentioned, she's had a good life.
Never had to deal with this "limited amount of life left" thing before; its very strange.

Thanks again all; we are waiting further results to see what stage it's at; with a melonoma vaccine (odd name as it's not one) she may have a number of months.
Me and the wife are trying to be pragmatic but the kids (aged 4 and 6), who are being amazing do come out with things that make us choke up.
Our 4 year old daughter, having been told Maddy will be gone soon said "but I don't want Maddy to go." Cue stifled tears from me and my wife.
Our 6 year old son, having been told we should make the most of her, is constantly playing ball with her, cuddling her, etc. So cute but so sad too.

Hi,
The same happened to our black lab many years ago.
A big lump on his top lip - vet operated but it came back very quickly.
Vet operated again and had to take some of the lip - left him looking like he was sneering!
Came back again even worse and then we had to do the unthinkable.
Just be careful it does not spread to the brain - as it affects their temperament (especially if you have young kids).
Best wishes.
Steve

Sorry its was the worst news you could expect, it's not an easy thing to do but the next choice of when is the best thing you can do for her.
As I said in my last post we did a similar thing ourselves recently with our lab, she was still bouncy and looked happy but we knew it was time.
Plenty of tears for a couple of days afterwards too, but now we just remember the good times we had with her.

Off to a specialist first thing on Thursday - to see what stage it's at and how long she's got. Probably going to give her a melanoma "vaccine" that should give her a bit of extra healthy(ish) life. You still wouldn't know - she's as lively as ever. Just suddenly being showered with treats and more affection.
As least, unlike people, she has no idea what's happening.

Really sorry to hear the news, it's a horrible feeling. Hope it goes as well as it can. About a year ago one of my boys, Piran, passed away after a very happy and healthy ten years. Went from one seizure on a Saturday, to him collapsing again on the Wednesday, then another seizure the following Saturday which was it. The only good thing was that it was the morning of my stag do, so I got let off a bit by my mates.

Thanks again all.
Saw the specialist, she's on the melanoma vaccine.
And my WORD it's expensive; she's insured to £2500; we'll be through that in no time. Oh well, she's getting great treatment.

Our old boy is on £10 of meds per day, thankfully the insurance covers much of that.
Got one of the Jack Russells booked in for cataract surgery in August, £2800 and the insurance doesn't cover eye problems in terriers. That's the holiday we'd been planning gone, but getting him sorted out is more important.
