Artic lorry drove into back ok my 306
I had an Artic lorry bump into the back of my trusty 306 diesel.
Was a pretty big shunt as we were merging slowly into the middle lane due to another accident
Got out and driver pulled over too, had a quick look but no damage so off we went.
The amount of people telling me I should of claimed is ridiculous.
I wasn't hurt, had no whiplash or sore neck etc. and the car wasn't damaged at all...
No wonder insurance is so high, I think what most people don't realise is, what's paid out to one, is paid for by many..

As said by Andy usually a bar runs along the bumper which gives way in a bump - had it happen twice on my insignia the bumper flexes quite a bit when that is bent in.

Try the boot; make sure it shuts properly. Check all shutlines. Check the line of the rear bumper.
A mate recently had his new Caddy crashed into; looked fine, turns out it was quite badly damaged; the tow bar took the impact and bent the rear subframe/chassis/whatever it's called.

Had a guy from Andorra reverse into the BMW..
It was only a sub-5mph tap as I was sat inside at the time (parked up in a parking space, engine off, sorting out snacks for the next 1000miles ).
damage...scuff...expected. Unexpected was after removing the bumper to find the inner plastic bumper had shattered around it mounting points. Older BMWs like the E46 had impact shock absorbers behind the rear bumper...not anymore its all just flimsy plastic.

Twice I've had it happen, in the late 90's More than just a scratch though both write offs - only 6 months between them too
Hit by a Toyota Carina and bounced off a lamppost into a Corsa in front!
Hit by a dozy Ford salesman not looking where he was going in a Ka, which was ok to drive afterwards
