maybe a European thing - where it is a requirement to have one in the car (for each passenger?)

and not in the boot, as you need to have it on as soon as you get out of the car on a motorway

the French seem to drive with them draped over the seat

Same in Germany we need them in the car for all passangers and some drape them over the two front seats aswell as the parcel shelf.

i noticed this the other week, I was working in sheffield. I was on site and had a call saying my lad had been taken to A&E (nothing serious- fell over)

i jumped in my silver skoda still with my yellow vest on and wasnt going slow on the A1 southbound to huntingdon and the amount of people who moved out the way was quite surprising

Wonder if you could get accused of impersonating a officer?

Of course ******* nicking stuff or trespassing also like to wear them because it makes them look like they are workers doing something legit.

Some of the "Polite" hi-viz that horse riders tend to wear (as well as cylcists) are very dodgy in terms of legality (Hi-vix with police battenburg but labelled "polite" instead of police). Plod do advise they shouldn't be worn.

I have five hi-viz jackets in door pockets of the car....but I do drive in Europe (where they should be in the passenger compartment not the boot)

Conspiracy theorist's answer:
"The people legitimately wearing the jackets are the lucky few who have been warned about the coming alien invasion and One-World Government take-over. The rest are just copycats, but they're wasting their time as they won't be spared enslavement by the Lizard People when the take-over begins, as their names aren't on the list."

Be afraid, be very afraid.

If you need a work jacket its just easy to buy a high vis one as they are only about £14 now and it means you can walk on site without any issues. Everyone doent work in an office where they obviously bave no need for high vis umless they liase with site
