What's your employment history.
Something on another thread got me thinking about my quite colourful employment history, so just wondered what other peoples was like.
Here's mine.
Started out on a YTS scheme for a couple of months before college making metal fences and gates from raw materials, so lots of cutting, measuring, welding, grinding and working from drawings.
Then worked at a tool hire firm servicing and repairing all manner of tools and equipment as well as delivering and collecting tools and plant.
Got a better paid job working at Raleigh bikes as a cycle assembler on a production line.
Did a spell as a machine operator at a plastics factory, 3 shifts and boring as hell, pay was ok and I'd get to drive the vans when van drivers were off sick or on holiday and then moved up to 7.5 ton curtain wagons for the same reasons, which was cool trying to get them on 2 wheels when they were empty on a particular bend.
in my defence I was only 19 and it was 4am with no traffic. 
A mate I helped get through college got me a job at a lift engineering firm and I did about 18 months there and a couple more years later when a mate I met there started his own firm, did a couple of 2 floor lifts on my own with an engineers mate and was the gaffer on a 5 floor duplex in Leeds many moons ago.
Then I got into fitting alarms, stereos, central locking, electric windows and very large early car phones.
Also drove a taxi at weekends and worked in a pub at the same time.
Did a spell as a waiter in a trendy American themed bar and restaurant.
Another mate was fitting suspended ceilings and I had a spell working with him doing that all over the country at Ladbrooks book makers and a few food processing factories, not nice.
Then we got a gig working in Germany for 8 months roofing, basically ripping the old one off and re- boarding, battoning and tiling 3 story apartment blocks, on a price per square metre, that was proper graft but the money was pretty good once we got into the swing of it and could do one a week with a 4 man team that later turned into a 3 man team, raking it in with the body of a god by the end of it, which the local ladies seemed to like.
Also did other bits of building work through him as well, screed floors and diamond cutting, some odds and sods plumbing, fitted kitchens and slate roofing.
Back to fitting stuff to cars but mostly phones and Trackers, ran my own business for a few years doing this too, but got made an offer I couldn't refuse one day so took it.
There's a few more bits in there as well but this post is long enough and I need to do a bit so i'll let some of you post yours.

Left school after 6th form at 18 and worked in a golf shop doing the PGA course to turn professional. Was going a treat until I was fired for ****ing the bosses 16 year old daughter who arrived to do her work experience!
After that I started for the company I'm still with now (been 12 years and counting) and never really looked back. Got stuck in, worked hard and currently on several times what I would have earned as a golf pro..... every cloud and all that!

Whilst at school one of the female teachers accidentally walked in whilst I was in the shower and immediately phoned Ron Jeremy to tell him what she had seen. Before I knew it I was a world-wide **** star, and in my spare time I was employed by Hugh Heffner to service his many young ladies in the playboy mansion.
Unfortunately an evil overlord saw one of my films, and realised his Miss World wife would instantly fall in love with me if she saw my man-sausage.
He kidknapped me and hid me underground on his private island, protected by his thousand man army. I tried to escape and bumped into his wife, who dropped to her knees when she saw my trouser-bulge. We ran but were surrounded by the army. Once the mist of blood and bone had settled I realised I had killed all one thousand of them with my bare hands.
My only means of escape was a Citroen 2cv, which I drove faster than anyone had ever driven before, choosing the best lines as I crossed borders and state lines. This was spotted by a formula one team boss, who immediately employed me.
I drove for various teams, the deal was I would hide at the back of a garage and swap places with the original driver hidden by the drivers crash helmet as I didn't want the fame.
My longest stint was for Ferrari for a nice German chap called Michael.
One day when one of the cars was crashed in practice I grew frustrated at how long it took the team to rebuild it. I shoved the team out of the way and built it myself, and it was better than any F1 car had ever been.
I got sick of the life of a racing driver so decided to have my memory erased and to go back to living in a **** hole town and work in a dead end job.

Well, that is a colourful past you have.
I started off as a Youth Worker looking after kids in a pre and post school childcare to earn some money whilst at school. This was actually pretty fun, playing football and playing computer games most of the time as I was the only guy there so I kept the boys busy.
Went on to do my degree, in order to pay my way I was an;
Events organiser for the council,
Labouror (sp?) doing loft conversions (hate heights so this was great fun!),
Traffic surveyor (counting cars was boring as sin but good pay for the hours)
Van Man for Allspares shipping all sorts of bus and lorry parts around south Wales.
Finally got a job with my masters and now I'm a Structural Analysis Engineer designing engines for a living. Been here over 4 years and can't see me doing anything else.

I left school at 16 and went to college to be an electrical engineer.
3 years at college with a few placements, then got a job as a maintenance electrician for 2 years. then electrical engineering for 8 years building CNC machines for BMW and Rolls Royce. Then domestic sparky for 7 years.
now I do domestic, commercial and industrial electrics, working with cables up to 240mm (installed a 1600A supply to a machine that makes wheelie bins last week)

I was in Italy at the Axel factory towards the end of last year sat down with Carlo the owner of Axel lifts and his top bods telling them how they can improve their product.........Their product is hardly "mechano rubbish".

I'm not trying to catch you out, I'm genuinely interested.....If it was Italian then chances are it was Axel and most probably a S.E.A controller because Axel now have their own controllers in ELE2000.

23 years old decided I wanted to better myself and went to college aiming to get a degree in chemistry
2 years into college my best mate asks me if I want to go work offshore
I was skint from being a student and went hellll yeaaa
started as a trainee offshore electric wireline operator in one of the biggest offshore service companys in the north sea in 2005
worked there until 2013 where I had risen to senior electric wireline operator.
best mate again asks me if I want a job with him in a Norwegian offshore oil company
as a tool specialist / field engineer working in Saudi Arabia working rotation
I take the job which has me now 19 months on building specialized downhole oil well tools
and going onto the rigs and running and installing them into the oil well.
a lot of responsibility and a lot of technical and mechanical knowledge is needed for this job
when I started because I had 8 years offshore experience in a similar specialized field I was thrown in at the deep end
to see how I handled it and fortunately took to it like a fish to water
and have 100% successes rate in both stripping and correctly redressing the rebuilding the specialized tools and 100% success rate with installing them in the well as well
over mountains of jobs on rigsite as I was one of the busiest tool specialists out on the rigs

Curtailed 6th form and decided to enter the workforce in 1961 - Yes 1961 !
Commenced working life with a structural consultant in London and attended Kingston College of Technology as a day release student.
Progressed from junior QS , reinforced concrete detailer and eventually to an RC design Engineer of multi storey structures and heavy foundations with a variety of consultants in London.
Felt like a change from the office and was fortunate to secure a Civil Site Engineer/surveyor on M23 /M25 and the Gatwick runway 1000' extension . Had a blue with a foreman and we were both sacked so went back into the office .
Very lucky to be selected for the early use of FE analysis and conceptual module design for North Sea applications , that lead me into the North Sea oil and gas boom of the 70's.
Topside Installation engineer with a major offshore installation contractor responsible for the engineering of lifting systems, moorings, heavy lifts , installation guidance systems, load outs ,seafastening & transportation analysis.
After a brief stint in Calgary , Canada I Emigrated to Australia in 1981 as Site Structural engineer on the NorthWest Shelf projects .
Have remained in Oz in a variety of Construction manager positions for the oil and gas construction industry during the 80's and 90's . The past 20 years or so have held senior positions within the offshore construction industry both in Australia , SE Asia , Azerbaijan , Egypt , Singapore and Indonesia.
I now have now retired - I have worked enough.
When I started we drafted on linen and used ruling pens . No calculators only slide rules.Complex structural analysis was conducted by university main frames via punched cards. No copiers . No fax . Printing drawings was a "wet " process .I wore Austin Reed stiff collars on my shirts and I sat on a stool all day .
Now I sit on a beach in Thailand and never wear a shirt .
