Today has been the hardest day of my life.
This is an emotional post so apologies for this but I feel the need to tell someone and to 'get it out'.
On 23rd December 2014 my 22 year old cousin, James, was killed doing what he loved, riding his bicycle and exploring beautiful locations. He was hit at 7:09am riding his bicycle before work by a car cutting a sweeping corner at speed, just at the moment James was on that corner.
Today was his funeral. Because of his links in the cathedral choirs, he was allowed a beautiful service at Gloucester cathedral and I was asked by my Auntie (James mum) to be one of the pall bearers (help carry the coffin to and from the cathedral and also to the graveyard). This is something no one should have to go through but at the same time I felt honoured to have been asked.
There is so much I could write about James about how talented he was. Life is so precious and devastating things can happen to any family. I think I am going to look at life in a slightly different light. The actions of this one driver has caused unbelievable pain to everyone who knew James and they probably can't begin to imagine the consequences of what they've done.
This is a new's article from today about James and the service:

This is a thread I made in September 2012 about the sponsored bicycle ride James did to Southern Italy for the Stroke Association where he raised over £1000:

Thanks

A good friend of mind died last Tuesday at the age of 45, they were fit and well and after going for a shower to get ready to go out shopping they felt a bit unwell and had a lie down never to get back up again. They also left a 15 year old behind but what can you do.
Try and make the best of having more life awareness while you can but we all take for granted the small and big things whether we like it or not.

Sorry to hear that fella. Cotswolds Road Safety has been a big topic of debate recently. There is never a good time to lose relatives and I have lost some around Christmas myself and it's a real sh1tter! I hope the service went as well as you can expect them to go. Our Grandpa had a wicked sense of humour, so it was rather fitting his Vicar nodded off during one of the musical overtures at his funeral. It was one of those moments that lifted an otherwise difficult day!
You can control your own actions, but there is always someone out there who throws less caution to the wind and inevitably it ends badly. In this case, granted you won't get James back, but the other driver will spend the rest of their natural life knowing first hand the consequences of "switching off" at the wheel. If the small glimmer of positivity in this is that they change their outlook to make life safer for others this terrible accident doesn't have to be in vain.
It's unfortunate at that time of the morning (only ever noticed this on the morning commute with the missus to the Kennels) that people generally seem to be driving far quicker than they would 2 hours later. I find it a bit unnerving in a 4WD vehicle on well lit roads in Cirencester.
Best wishes to you and your family.
