Hi guys - just like it says, Ive got about £300 or so. Looking at maybe Fuji or Canon. How many Mega Pixels are generally reqd for everyday use and how does that relate to number of pics you can fit on?
Thanks in advance

i'd recommend a nikon coolpix 775, very neat little camera and in your budget.
i bought one last week for £300, its 2.1 megapixel and loads of extra features and they threw in an extra 32md card with it
i'm sure this was recommended before on here by a few people and now me

Only 2 to think about: Minolta S304 or Canon G1
Remember thaT LESS THAN 1 MILLION IS FINE FOR pc or e-mail use. Forget Digital zooms..... Optical is better.

I've got the Nikon (775). Very happy with it. Good size, easy to handle, lots of settings so you can easily produce images of the desired effect. The dial on top of the camera is much easier to use than fiddly buttons. Standard memory is ok for everyday use, but if you want to take it on your hols you're better off with a 64Mb card.

Hi, I just recently purchased the Fuji 2600Zoom from internet cameras direct. It has 2.1 million pixels resolution and came with a 16meg card, mini tripod, software, batteries and charger. I also opted for a 32Meg card as well which came to £252 with free insured delivery.

I am still getting use to the camera and so have left it in auto mode for now, but I have found it easy to use and have been happy with the images captured, it also has the ability to do 20 sec movie captures as well.

The Canon Powershot G1 is a very good camera and it's prices dropped with the advent of the G2 ().
Compact flash prices are dropping the same way solid state is for computers. Shop around a friend just bought 128Mb for silly money, although I can't remember where from.
The G2 is out of the proce range you mentioned btw, although at 4.0 megapixles and resolutions to match it is a blinding camera.

I reckon that you need more than 2 million pixels - but at over the 3.3million that the Minolta S304 has I reckon you are chasing dreams ............ after all, who has an A3 or larger Photo Quality printer?? (cos thats what you need to see the difference over 3million!)
I looked at the Cannon G2 - really did NOT like how it felt in my hand ............ the S304 sits beautifully - I DO have Bear hands however!!

Fuji Finepix 4800z.
Super ccd with 4.3 million pixel resolution,£350 now though.
Designed alloy housing by Porsche!!
Takes video footage aswell.
On my 64mb media card it will hold 700 photos on the lowest resolution

Just a few things to add to what has already been said.
1 I reckon you need 2mp or more, I had 1.5(Fuji MX1700), now 3.3 (Mx6900). 1.5 is not enough for a 10x8 print, 3.3 is more than enough
2 Get a good optical zoom and ignore digital zoom, its just cropping, you can do that with the PC.
3 Get one or two decent sized cards for it, valuemedia.co.uk are the best price I found
4 If it uses lithium ion or lithium metal hydride batteries get a pair of extra ones from sabahoceanic.com, I got 2 for my DVcam for the price of one in the shops.
5 Get one with a USB connection, or budget for a card reader. Serial port is far too slow
As you can see I like Fuji's but the 6900 is out of your price range
Have a look at megapixel.com or stevesdigicams.com for reviews
Good luck

http://www.crucial.com/uk/store/list...Attrib=Package for CompactFlash memory. Decent service from Crucial as well.
http://www.cxi.org.uk/cars/cat2002/index.htm were all taken with my now long in the tough Canon Digital Ixus. I'd certainly get another Canon digi cam if I was looking.

Casio QV3500 - 3.5 mega pixel, loads of useful features, a decent lens with 3x *optical* zoom as well as a digital zoom and you can pop a Microdrive in if you want to.
Takes at up to 2048x1536 and will also take TIFFs if you need the absolute top quality for anything.
You *do* need the highest pixel count you can get, regardless of your intended use. The better the image you start with, the better you end up with after you've done whatever you need to it...

None of them are very good for fast moving stuff but at least you get to have a look to see if they worked. Better if it has a shutter priority manual mode and can push the ISO rating

I bought the 2800 Finepix a few weeks ago and I'm very happy with it. Its a nice size to hold, takes superb pictures especially thanks to the big optical zoom and movies with sound too - superb
Only downsides are the LCD viewfinder and the LCD screen, a bit dark and hard to see in very bright light, but it doesn't bother me much. Oh, it also eats batteries - you definately need some NiMH rechargables!!!
Cheers

Just looking for the cheapest prices in the UK at the moment. How much difference is there between the 1600 mAh and the 1800 mAh in terms of performance, is it worth the extra?
Thanks
Rich

Was kind of intending to but I was just unsure of the difference I would notice.
Im also just wondering if theres an easy way to work out how many pics you can fit on a media card? I appreciate it will depend on what res you use, but can anyone give me an example of how many photos I can squeeze on at a decent resolution.
Thanks
Rich
