Listen carefully "Grasshopper".For if the tall tree falls in the forest & there is no-one there to hear.
Does it make any sound?

Spent 3 years in Singapore as a kid & got interested. Then followed a period of finding "The Way".

Kung Fu(Flying Dragon),Wing Chun,Wado-ryu(Semi-contact Sport Karate)-Purple Belt,Tang Soo Do-Yellow Belt.

Then I got clicking hips so had to give up competition.

Parts of Wing Chun style suits me now.No high kicks,no need to do loads of stretching.Get by on short sharp moves, close up or boxed in,no problem.

Weapons training.Bo(Staff),Bokken(Training Sword),Katana(S.S.Live Blade-unbreakable/allegedly!)

Bit old in the tooth now,so prefer a nice quiet game of cards.

Part of my armoury :-

Mark (Peace & Love)

Made it as far as brown belt in Shotokan karate - then managed to put a disc out in my back (getting a car ready for its MOT), just as I was recovering from the cracked ribs (karate injury). By the time that was better, I'd started up with the OU (which takes up a lot of spare time) so haven't trained for a few years.
Edited because I forgot - many many years ago I did taekwondo for about a year or so, but stopped when I started working shifts as I could only train 1 week in three. Shifts ended, but I never went back.

Did Freestyle Taekwondo bach in OZ at Rhee Taekwondo, for almost 3 years. Got to brown tip, broke my ankle doing a flying side kick and never went back after that cos I was out for over a year with the injury.

Matial arts? Whats that then?

Depends on which silat you're talking about. The western one is called Penchak Silat (can't spell it as its not in Malay).

Katana(S.S.Live Blade-unbreakable/allegedly!)
I wish. Unfortunately the harder the steel, the easier it is to shatter. Thats why the back of a katana is made soft whereas the blade bit is hard. But even still, do not attempt to block another sword directly using your katana. Otherwise, you'll lose a 4000 quid Katana from your experiment.

Red face

Does street fighting count?
If so,yes I do some of that.
Come across very few martial artists in me time, they tend to be more sensible than the normal pi55 head. The ones I have come across tend to get more shots in,and are harder to hit.But they still go down when you catch them with a good one .
PS this reply makes me sound like a thug, but Im not, trouble tends to find me.Goes with the job.

Average pi55 heads do tend to have a pain threshold, higher than a non pi55 head but there all the same.

The worst are the crack heads. No pain,no fear. Will just keep coming.

Like my instructor said though."Take out their legs & they can only crawl after you." Giving time for a dignified exit.

Second dan WTF taekwondo. Stopped 8? yrs ago due to recurring hamstring problem.

Always trying aikido, never quite making it. Learning in a foreign language (French, Russian, soon maybe Portuguese) doesn't do wonders for the learning curve.

Ahhh, interesting thread.

My girlfriend does Tae Kwan Do (sp), and is trying to get me into it. Is it worth getting into? Someone at work did Wing Chun and rated it higher. What are the pros and cons?
