Never let it be said there's no money in recycling...
Out here in France, there seems to be plenty of money made.
Our local recycling centre has had 6mm 2.4m steel fencing fitted, with a high voltage wire threaded through at 200mm intervals and on top.
If you touch, break, cut, or earth the wire, a siren goes off and the local police are advised immediately, plus the three guardians who work at the tip, via a remote they carry at all times. Even changing the resistance of the wire by more than a couple of Ohms, (by shorting out a section, adding a longer wire and cutting between, for example), sets off the alarms.
So what's this little lot cost? More than €20,000 according to the guy on duty today. And every tip is to be so armed.
And is this in a big city?
Nope...tiny village with a population of under 2,000, and a local population of under 8,000.
So SOMEONE is making big bucks somewhere.........

Its always the way...if it was operated at a big loss they wouldn't be doing it.
They say the Green waste is costing us money...bollocks. The contractor is taking the p*ss. I got stuck behind a green waste wagon for 15mins on a narrow section of road and I've never seen "workers" walk so slow in my life. I should have videoed it on the phone because it seemed like they walking in slow motion.
In contrast the Domestic refuse crew in our area run behind the wagon; Good attitude...getting the job done and staying fit at the same time.
And then we have the pikeys with the transit pickups...always laden with scrap metal. Their latest trick is not to bother piking up the fridges and freezers, but just take the compressors and leave the rest behind. If our business was caught leaking a bit of 134A (a "safe-ish gas) we'd be hung out to dry, but these guys are letting out loads of R12 and R22 gas (CFCs) into the air and getting away with it, its not slum areas either...Its teh posh areas where residents thinks it ok to dump a old fridge in the street.. If I were in charge of the country I'd fine the lazy home owners for leaving their fridge out the front of their house...its YOUR rubbish...deal with it yourself properly.
