Default May as well start one..... Another watch thread :)

I'd been thinking about getting another watch for a while so took the plunge and bought one, no idea why as ive got too many of the things already lol.

I went for this:

http://www.watch-my-watches.com/en/m...tab_data_sheet

I just wanted something different, something to wear smart/casual and a watch that wasn't too common, a bit different so to speak. I'd watched a bit of the Tour De France over the last couple of years, mainly when Bradley Wiggins and Chris Froome won so thats where i got the idea for a Festina watch from.

I'll post some pics up when i get a bit of spare time, be good to see if anyone else has bought anything recently that's a bit different.

I didn't buy it from that site mate, i just used their link as they had clearer pictures.

Nice watches Devil Dog, i'm not a watch expert myself, that Luminor Marina at a guess is a divers watch or some type of army watch as it looks quite rugged and solid around the face ?

Other Rolexes? I've had a few stainless sports models that I've traded for the next. Current one bucks the trend - its a Daytona with a leather (think its alligator) strap, although its on a Rubber B strap at the moment as I don't get the point of a waterproof watch on a strap you can't get wet

The Sub and the Panerai in the picture are both certainly not waterproof however as they are both fakes - picked up in Thailand for about £50 the pair last month. Call it curiosity!

I was looking at Festina a while back.

In the end I went for one of these instead - understated little number

I did wonder if you'd really just casually dropped at least £10l on two watches!! I do like Panerais. Not too fussed about Rolexes.

Yeah, it would have been an exopensive month if they were real!

I looked at Panerais when I bought the Daytona and I will have a real one at some point (hopefully!).

I've had the rolex bug since I got my first (a vintage daytona, bought from a friend) 25 years ago. Had one ever since - always traded them in and I've always been fortunate with the values.

They're definitely a sound investment but I just don't quite get them.

No mate, i just used their site to post the link, ive never ordered anything from them.

Nice watch jasey, the yellow on the dials works really well against the rest of the watch, i like the allen key type bolts.

I've been thinking seriously about this...

The only thing stopping me is the £2375 price tag as I'm not sure if a Brietling of some description would be a better investment.

Any thoughts?

If you want a tag then by a tag, I wouldn't buy one as an investment unless your buying a limited edition version. I'd be surprised if any of the 'mass produced' tags are investment material.

TBH only a Rolex or Omega will hold it's money unless you go really high end. However a Breitling should be better than a tag; I really like the Avenger Seawolf Black steel yellow (punchy name huh?!) which is around £3k. Whatever you get, if it has an ETA (basically Swatch that makes most movements for watches up to about £5k) movement, it won't hold it's money well. Very few have a fully in house movement below £5k.

Whilst I'm a cycling fan (more than a cyclist these days) I've never really gone for Festina. As an investment I'd have to say Rolex for a mid priced / low end luxury brand. People who think Rolex are the 'best' unfortunately know little about watches. AP, Panarai, PP are less well know but produce such beautiful watches that cost more than a half decent new car!

I agree gpssti4, you don'y buy a Festina watch as an investment. They are fairly cheap in watch terms compared to the high end watches, its more that its something different, something you can wear casual and not be bothered that you may scratch a £3-5k watch.

I'd be interested to know how often the people that own these £3k - £5k watches actually wear them without worrying whether they might scratch it or damage it while its on the wrist, i couldn't wear a watch like that as you'd be too conscious of it getting knocked or scratched, you couldn't enjoy it as you should. I presume their more as an investment than to wear on a regular basis ?

It was bought new from another forum i occasionally use.
