Default Rimless glasses

Does anybody wear these?

I fancy a pair , but was wondering how much more fragile they are ( compared with full rim)

- maybe even too light, to run with etc

This is full glasses, rather than reading ones

Very fragile. You see, they have no frame to contain them.

Personally I find rimless glasses sh7t. They have no impact on my face. At least I can pose in my reading glasses with funky frames.

Yeah it must be bit like hanging the suspension off the engine

- but your guaranteed never to lose a lens!

I like the idea of being able to see up /down unimpeded

Tried those frames you pointed out Swati, unfortunately I didn't take into account they bit too narrow, or narrower

And also some strange variation of magnification across the lens, to my eyes anyway

I don't think I was imagining it. ( I do know my prescription has changed a bit since last time)

You know what, be careful even with the rimless ones. They often have colourless invisible rubber rims to them; in order to contain and the lens and make your rimless glasses more durable. But even then, you DO lose the lens. It happened with me ones when I bought a pair from Specsavers. I liked them because of the blue nose rests, and for their feather light weight. But in next two days, a lens came off the rubber rim, and I was shocked to see that the rimless lens was actually contained within that rubber rim on a right p7ss by then. I was extremely disappointed, and got them fixed, which took another 5 days for them to send the pair off and all that messing. Just as well I had another chunky pair on Buy One, Get One Free thingy to get by.

That's the thing. Idea could be more pleasant that the reality sometimes.

All I'm saying is that tell your specs makers to ensure they are realistically rimless. No invisible rubber rim sh7t. That's all.

Silhouette frames/lenses, unbelievably light and virtually unbreakable.

Duncan, you should go into the store like Specsavers or Vision Express, Alton Murphy or even Boots or ASDA. Try the frames there, make sure you like them, and get the store to adjust them for you. I hardly buy anything on line. You're better off seeing things before you buy imo. Not just the glasses, but anything; well ok, most things.

Rubber rims eh..i wouldn't have guessed that.

Those silhouette are interesting. But 300-400 I think? ? And probably too light, for me.

I have had a few minimal designer frames over the years and they have all been fragile, Oakley, Carrera etc etc. Due to my complex vari-focal lenses I pay at least £300 just for them.

I have now gone back to good old black frames. No problems, cheap and in fashion at the minute.

Had a pair of rimless glasses for about 6 years ,maybe more.
From specsavers I think.
light and durable ,with no problems, except I did not get them scratch resistant which I should have done really.

Used to wear them all the time.Nice & light & no frame to obscure your vision.
But they are very fragile.Manufacturers can't seem to find a good way to fix the arms to the lens.

I wear half rims now.Very strong & no breakages so far.

I wear rimless silhouette glasses. Fantastic, so light to wear as if they are not there. You can run in them no problem due to being so light weight. I have mine photo sensitive to change with the light. If you don't wear them all the time, then yes you could damage them more easily. I do and after 5 years they are still great. They are expensive

They don't "drift" off your forehead, during 30mph decents on the bike Andy ?

,I'm not really sure I could justify the wedge but anyway

No, I have ridden at nearly 50 mph downhill and ridden with them mountain biking, they feel very secure. The arms are springy so grip your head/ears. I also wear them for motorcycle riding.

I think contact lenses are the best compromise. Very light and no arms to snap off

I don't miss the dehydrating feeling , the hassle putting them in/out , the cleaning and finally the cost.
They're tricky to swim in also ,I believe

I've gone for cheapo pair specs , temporarily

Have a look on www.glassesdirect.co.uk, they are always running special offers and have a home trial, in which you can get four pairs to test, allowing you to see which style suits you the most.
