Default Another helping hand for UKIP :-)

EU urges UK to overhaul council tax

More meddling from people living it up on our money in Brussels!

No doubt Martin will be along soon to tell me I am wrong

Indeed.

I agree with most of the points they raise, but, my initial reaction is, who the hell are they to dictate government policy! Especially our tax system!

If you ignore the attention grabbing headline, the EU are simply offering advice and recommendations, there are no EU laws, legislations or statutes that I am aware of where the EU can enforce changes to our existing tax policies, therefore the UK are not obligated to go with their recommendations.

How kind of them!

The EU, the organisation that hasn't had its own accounts independently verified for years due almost certainly to corruption, is giving us financial advice.

and this kids is why UKIP did so well in the elections. If people read the articles completely and understood the full argument then there'd be far less excitement.

Mind you the opinion of someone who pretends to be a moderate yet votes for Cameron (as you recently revealed) is pretty much worthless in my book!

Maybe

How about the mind of someone who regularly states that they a socialist, openly rejoiced when Maggie died, then votes for the most Thatcherite party on the ticket?

Hang on, it was you who told me I had to vote as wasting my vote was not right. Ergo as there are no socialist mainstream parties I voted for the one that will get us out of Europe and give us back our governance.

After that I shall start worrying about what form that governance takes as I doubt it could be any worse in the short term than the Cameron and Clegg Show and certainly better than Miliband's bunch of sell outs

the problem is that people use this ubiquitous access to information to simply reinforce their own prejudices and inadequacies, online, you will always find a bigger idiot than yourself

Mitt Romney, the US presidential candidate had to downplay, to an almost denial, the fact that he could speak fluent French – he knew anti-knowledge gets votes from the stupid

the rise of daft religeous dogma, with zero basis in anything!!! full stop - anti-knowledge

My father, a teacher for forty years, interrupted while he went off the bomb Germany with the RAF for nearly 6 years, used to call it, "the worship of mediocrity".

Epitomised by the kid at school who is top dog for coming bottom in a test, while the kids getting 10/10 keep their heads down.

I have not seen it - but apparently there is a TV programme called "an idiot abroad" with a bloke called Karl Pilkington

who has made a whole career of being an idiot - I can only observe that the popularity of the program is that so many people empathise with him - and as you say

"revel in being ignorant and uneducated"

I actually made the point 3 odd years ago

my son has suffered a tiny bit of this - he simply remarked to them that he would be employing them in a few years time.

Both my kids suffered from it.

The eldest resorted to thuggery.

The youngest befriended the thugs.

And more recently with Cameron and his "hug a hoodie" plan.

And most of my primary school years

Somehow I managed to turn that round at secondary school; Probably because I wasn't "'ard" enough to fit in with the thickos. I could literally say I had the sense kicked into me.

If ignorance is bliss then all of these idiots must be in heaven!
It seems this culture of the 'celebrated numpty' harks back to the days of the village idiot. One who provided much mirth and laughter for others at his/her expense. Television only seems to have elevated the idiocy by further celebrated characters like Frank Spencer. Since then we have had a plethora of real life thickies from Jordan to various Big Brother contestants. There's TOWIE's Joey Essex, no offence to any of them but why are these idiots given a platform?
Like their personas I suppose it's cheap, tacky and effortless mediocrity to view for the masses.
