For the last year and a bit I have lived in Kuala Lumpur. I went to the Malaysian GP last year and this.
I sat at exactly the same place (end of final straight at braking point for final hairpin.
The difference in sound is HUGE. The cars really do sound pretty poor (and I speak after being to more than 60 GP events since the 80's). I have also driven an ex Alonso F1 car on circuit .
If they do not attempt to sort the noise out, then Sepang was the last race I will attend.
Will not go down to Singapore race in September.
Honestly ; they sound horrific and low revving. The Porsche Supercup race cars sounded better on upshift/downshift.

According to the commentators on Sky F1 the sound is only poor on TV, but ok live?
Glad to see we have first hand experience that it's not the case, they just sound **** full stop.

They need to fit massive dump valves.!!!

Why would they need to be, they are race cars not shopping cars.
The problem isn't the lack of noise they make but the sh1te noise they make, you can put down all the microphones you like, all you are going to hear is more sh1te.
