Default Formula one Explained 2014

For all us that didn't know what the changes were, apart from people moaning about noise

Nice video

Anybody else think every time Daniel Riccardio opens his mouth it's like looking into a cave?

For the last year and a bit I have lived in Kuala Lumpur. I went to the Malaysian GP last year and this.
I sat at exactly the same place (end of final straight at braking point for final hairpin.
The difference in sound is HUGE. The cars really do sound pretty poor (and I speak after being to more than 60 GP events since the 80's). I have also driven an ex Alonso F1 car on circuit .
If they do not attempt to sort the noise out, then Sepang was the last race I will attend.
Will not go down to Singapore race in September.
Honestly ; they sound horrific and low revving. The Porsche Supercup race cars sounded better on upshift/downshift.

According to the commentators on Sky F1 the sound is only poor on TV, but ok live?

Glad to see we have first hand experience that it's not the case, they just sound **** full stop.

Haven't watched F1 in 3 years. The BTTC is much more entertaining in my opinion.

They look and sound like moped engined, F3 cars.

I am surprised that no one has spotted the fix for these new engines, especially
on this site!!!

They need to fit massive dump valves.!!!

You should give this year a try. With the extra torque and less aero the cars are visibly more twitchy and harder to drive, they no longer look like they are on rails.

V8 Supercars is by far the best touring car series imo, Motors now have the full races and rather than waiting a week for highlights they have full delayed coverage for both the Sat and Sun races, such a treat watching with all that glorious V8 power and sound

Didn't even bother with F1 this weekend

Nope, but I do think that they should stop having Vettel as Ricciardo's chief engineer. I thought they would have got rid of the 'Aussie Spec' parts once Webber left.

Maybe the old cars were just too loud. Afterall, you don't need to wear earplugs whilst driving a road-legal 911, Murcillago or Veyron, no matter how much power and speed they have.

F1 cars aren't silenced.

BTCC used to be good but nowadays it's just not proper racing.

British GT's, WEC, Historic touring cars, all great championships with great racing.

I didn't say they were. But why weren't they? As I said, maybe they were too noisy in the old days.

The easy solution is just to point microphones at the track and use loud speakers to turn up the volume, if it really has to be louder.

That wouldn't work.

The noise itself isn't right. They don't sound like they have any oomph, If you know what I mean.

God knows how Formula E are going to get on.

Can't the teams just pop down to halfords and pick up a couple of those noisy exhausts for the next race ?

Why would they need to be, they are race cars not shopping cars.

The problem isn't the lack of noise they make but the sh1te noise they make, you can put down all the microphones you like, all you are going to hear is more sh1te.

A Bugatti Veyron is hardly a shopping car.

Compared to a F1 car that's all the Bugatti is, just an over priced shopping car.
