Default Repairers for your car, would you send it to just a normal bodyshop?

Hi Guys and Girls,

After your opinions please.

Been a hell of a lot going on recently, and to top it all off now due to a 100% non fault accident, my Scoob has been rammed up the jacksie by another car while stationary in traffic, absolutely gutted

The Third party's insurer has requested to collect the vehicle from the my insurers compound and repair it using their own choice of bodyshop, which apparently they have the right to do, so fair enough.

Question is would you think that its classed as enough of a specialist / performance car to need special attention, or would you be happy to let any bodyshop do it?

No way
My car is insured and repaired by my insurance at a place we choose
They then collect the money from the other guys insurance if they are found to be at fault
Thats how it has always worked for me in the past

Thankyou gents,

I'd thought it was a bit strange that they wanted to take the vehicle themselves, but the nominated garage hasn't got any negative words said about it on tinternet, i'm just uneasy about their having arranged it with a direct interest in the repair cost I suppose.

The TP's insurer have been a bit funny so far, but at the end of the day I never asked for their driver to wreck my pride and joy so if its not right they can have it back. Thats if I get it back and they don't write it off!

Mate your other option is to go through a non fault accident company and let them deal with it.

Accident companies, IMHO, are in it to generate big bills and take a cut for themselves, not always in the owners interest!
Especially when we ultimately will pay for it all at renewal time!

Surely your insurer is the only party you should be discussing this with?
What guarantee is being given on the work? (if it turns rusty in 18 mths etc?)

Hope it is sorted to your satisfaction.

Thanks for all the replies,

All seems fine thankfully, it's not going to be written off and the repairer has quoted tonight with all genuine Subaru parts, new for old etc.
They seem to really know about the car and plenty of background with them so I'm resting easy now :-)

Think you're right with the TP insurer not wanting management companies involved, big big money being made in that game!
