Need a bit of advice
Ok, this is almost definitely in the wrong section but here goes anyway.
I am beside myself with excitement for Snett next weekend (just because I can perv on loads of scoobies, my favourite hobby) and I was going to make the 90 mile journey in mine, however, I seem to have developed a couple of problems. Firstly, a mechanic friend of mine is suggesting that 1 of the pistons on my front left calliper is most likely seized, I still have plenty of braking action but I am wondering whether the prolonged drive might cause more issues or at worst make the car unsafe. Secondly, every time I pull up to a stop whether I have been giving it a bit of pedal or not I get this strong oily burnt smell in the car, my friend says it is most likely my rocker cover gasket and that I shouldn't worry so long as all my levels are correct, which they are. I dont get paid until after snett when I can afford to get these things looked at but I am desperate to bring mine along. Should I just swallow it and come up in the wife's Clio or does it sound fairly routine and I should stop worrying? Thanks in advance for any constructive input.

I'm leaving the subaru at home and coming in the truck
Two hours at 5k rpm doesn't interest me at all.....
It's not like you can park in the pit lane so come in the clio; you'll save money on squirt and not end up making what could be easy fixes into bigger problems.

Which side rocker cover is it; if it's the driver's side hot oil can ignite on the hot up-pipe, but if you take it easy you'll be okay, passenger side is fine as long as it is not pissing out. Same with the brakes, mine had a sticking caliper for about a year or so and never caused any major problems because I didn't drive it like I'd nicked it.
If you are really worried I can swing up your way from Watford and give you a lift but you're not going on track so I wouldn't worry if it was my car

Thanks for all of your advice guys. Thanks for the offer Jon but if I am still worried on Friday I'll bring the clio, it's not fast but it is the 1.2 micro turbs and does have more poke than most little runabouts. I am not sure which side it is, the smell is strong throughout the cab for about a minute then goes away if I stick my head in the engine bay as soon as I pull up it doesn't seem to be stronger on one side. Now, next question where's best place to get some locking wheel nuts at the weekend Seems I have managed to lose the key.
