Hi all thought I would start a thread with my type r I've recently bought.... I saw the car come up on eBay and was only 35 miles away so the day it was advertised Me and my mate rob who I work with drove down with the cash and got it for a very reasonable price. This is when I picked it up Click image for larger version

ID:	14413 The guy had spent a small fortune back in 2010 fitting bits to the car such as simtek ecu, reverse manifold, fmic etc etc and had it running at 320bhp. He had also spent a lot of time smoothing out the engine bay, the battery and screen wash both being relocated to the boot. Click image for larger version

Once I got the car back We started looking over it and realised there was a few things that required some attention so we took the engine out straight away, as always when someone decides to take an engine out things get mentioned, parts get ordered and then the car that was simply meant to be a daily becomes more of a project...

New timing belt, guides, water pump and thermostat fitted. Whilst the engine was out I decided to paint the engine bay as it had been done a few years back and was starting to look untidy, I decided to use upol raptor liner which for those that haven't heard of it is a truck bed liner that sets very hard and is quite durable but also leaves a textured finish rather than smooth... Different

Whilst the engine was out rob told me to buy some of the tesa wiring loom tape that's used on vw's I think, I taped the full engine loom on less than 2 rolls and it really neatens it up and looks good too. I also decided to get some bits repainted on the engine to make it look better... Little Ben looks like he's loving life doing these for me

The car came with stock headers so we took them off, split them and then dropped them off with a lad round the corner who does a lot of engineering work for us who then ported them for me for better flow. The same lad who is a fantastic welder and only 17 then put a run of weld round all my intercooler pipes to prevent them blowing off under boost Once the headers were done they were refitted along with a td05 20g turbo that was taken off a car we was breaking. Now these were on it was time for the engine to go back in

I was on the lookout for some better suspension but didn't really have the funds to buy brand new and luckily for me I stumbled across a guy who had a full set of Gaz golds that were to firm for him so I swapped him my standard sti shocks and springs, fitted them and gave him some cash too... He was more than happy and so was I. Whilst my car had no suspension I decided it was the best time for me to clean me inner arches so a few of us set to with wire brushes etc then masked them up, I still had 2 litres of raptor liner so decided to use that on the arches Click image for larger version

ID:	14440 The brakes will be upgraded at some point when funds allow but they can stay like that for the time being. Jack the engineer had brought my intercooler pipes back now fully sand blasted and ready for paint, also I had ordered a pair of morette headlamps so I set little Ben off on a spraying mission again, you can't see them properly on this pic but they are done and look cool Click image for larger version

The car had come with a very weird exhaust setup it had a 3" down pipe into a 2.5" centre into a 3" rcm backbox... I already had a 3" centre section so straight away we swapped them over. Whilst scouring the net I found a guy who had a near complete rcm exhaust system but had a nur spec back box, so we swapped. He was happy now because he ended up with a complete rcm system and I preferred the blitz anyway

You may also notice that previously someone has molded a rear diffuser onto the original bumper, I'm led to believe its off a 22b but what ever it's off it looks good and you don't see others the same

I'm still in a few minds what wheels I am wanting to run on the car but for the time being I have taken off the standard wheels that were painted black and replaced them with some speedline 17's that I managed to get at a fair price

Interior wise I haven't really done much as of yet, the dash is flocked already, I have fitted a triple gauge pod on top with stack gauges but they are only loosely fitted at the minute, the centre console and armrest were also flocked but it was quite old and worn so replaced it with standard

This is pretty much how the car stands now and I am currently waiting for new injectors too arrive and some more bits to be painted then it can go off for mapping. The simtek was installed by area 52 and also the maps were carried out by them too but I haven't fully decided where I want to take my car to be mapped yet once my bits are done.

Making progress now... I've had it running today, Coolant is in and bled up, we fitted the oil catch can and breather pipes etc although they aren't on the pic above... Also the air filter pictured was just for measuring and isn't staying on.

Managed to fit all the boost solenoid piping and wire in my gauges... Very happy with those.

I decided today I needed to pull my finger out and get a deadline sorted so I booked it in for a map next weekend, this gives us 10 days to fit a complete 6 speed conversion, have the suspension set up properly, wire in the morette lights, fix various other bits and ensure it's going to be ready :-) fingers crossed it should do ok on the rollers

10 days sounds long but deduct work hours etc and it soon passes, I will keep updating as we go on

Spoke to jase at area52 yesterday and he told me a few things I ideally needed before taking it for a map so shopping commenced... I rang advanced automotive and purchased a walbro, could of paid extra for the rcm pump but decided that the walbro was plenty enough for what I'm going to need. Got onto jjc and they are sending me a new filter that will hopefully fit just nice, a fresh set of ngk 7's from a local motor factors. Ordered a set of 740cc injectors and managed to bag some cheap unused phase 2 adapters on fleebay.

Pretty good day for parts just means there's more to fit before mapping but it's all part of the fun.
