My 93 WRX

My 93 WRX
Hi all,
I have been browsing on here for a while and have been an Impreza fan since I was knee high to a grasshopper. I just bought a 93 WRX, its in great order, one of the best bodywork wise for its age i have seen around.
Its nearly standard spec, just running a filter, HKS turbo timer, 3inch stainless de-cat system and stainless manifold. It does also have a receipt for an ECU from scooby clinic.
Im having some boost problems and have been changing all sorts of pipe work to fix it, but its still running too low at 0.7 bar. next thing is to replace the ricirc valve to see if this is the problem.
Im also selling these wheels to replace with standard ones.
thanks for looking

Thanks, as with any car this age there are some minor marks, but you see so many with rusty arches these days. I managed to have a good look at the underneath the other day when the exhaust was being done and its super clean.
Since i have had it its just had a detail inside and out, new turbo vac lines and turbo intake pipe, some tax and thats it. keeping it as standard as possible.

Cheers for the advice james, the boost leak actually started before i had changed all the vac hose. the only thing i can think of now is the ricirc valve. as i push down on the throttle under load you can hear the leak and it sounds like its coming from just infront of me when im drivng. I also replaced the hose to the boost gauge.
When i first heard the leak i started to take the engine apart and found the turbo inlet pipe was cracked, so assumed it was this, i changed it, plus the vac hoses and still have the leak. I had a search on here and apparently a dodgey BOV/Dumpvalve can cause boost leak so this was my next step. I checked to see if the turbo had any play when i took of the inlet pipe and it was sturdy.
A dodgey boost solenoid wouldn't cause a leak would it?

Can you post video straight onto here or do you have to link through youtube? I have a GoPro so will do when the weather drys up.
Im just worried about this boost leak at the moment. I don't want to take it to any old garage because they wont have a clue. If the used BOV doesn't fix it im going either have to spend a fortune on fault finding labour, or I had considered breaking it, but the body is to good really.

I had to bite the bullet and taking it too David Hendry cars near me in Malmesbury. They have a lot of experience with these and they reckon if you can hear the leak they will be able to diagnose it within an hour. Will keep you all posted on the outcome.

0.7 psi = 10.2 psi
stock ecu for that car runs 11.4 so not far off. perhaps bad gauge. or actuator.
do you mind me asking how much you paid? i have a 93 wrx in similar condition might sell. You can pm me.

Looks like a really nice tidy example, not sure the rims suit the car so replacing standard wheels will make it a loot more 'sleeper' (even if the 'zort doesn't!)

Thanks for your views and advice guys, much appreciated. Would an actuator or ricirc valve problem cause it too sound like there is a leak though? you cant hear it when you rev it standing, only under load. also it doesn't chatter as much if you come of the throttle after heavy load at low revs.

^^ would be shame to loose another to the breakers over a turbo, a good second hand one wouldn't be too expensive, before you break it pm me and I will see if I can give it a safe home

You're going to break what appears to be one of the cleanest version 1 cars around for the sake of a couple of hundred quid?
If the car is near enough standard, you're not going to get much for the parts anyway - partly because there are so few of them left!

It is a very clean body no doubt, but it has gearbox issues too, the spring for locating neutral has gone and the syncros are on their way out. If i was to fix it I would be looking at around £300 for the box and £100 for the turbo plus actually having the work done. Its just doesn't warrant keeping. And no ones going to pay £2K for an impreza with a warn turbo and dodgy gearbox. It makes financial sense to break it.

Being a older classic the parts unless to fix another older classic aren't that desirable as people like to upgrade to newer " better" parts, ie fitting the 4 pots from the later sti's to the early uk cars etc, I wouldn't have thought your car would part out very well, engine and shell I guess are worth a few £££ but in the long run its best to put the car way and fix it when you can afford to or It makes more finaninal sense
