Can't beat the smells either,...... of race engines, race fuels, oils, pits with the hint of perfumes worn by paddock *****

Used to go to Cowdenbeth stock car racing the sound of Ford crossflows running twin 40s and the smell of Castrol R40 then when you got home you had small bits of tyres stuck to your face . I also went to Le Mans 1989 90 and 91 1989 there was 55 cars running about 1000 hp the start was like nothing I have ever heard again.

I went to Le Mans with The Silk Cut Jaquar team in 87 for the 5 days and it's still one of the best experiences I have had.
Those V12's and the Merc C9 -11 V8's sounded soooooo nice especially at night.
Awesome experience being around Group C cars.

Tell the Mrs to **** off for a while and if you have kids give them £20 and tell to get lost............. then turn the volume up full pelt and watch these

At 3.10 am Win Percy (one of the Jaguar drivers) never past the pits when he should have. We were frantically searching on the monitors for the samll green lights on the roof of his car but at night was really difficult to see as we had 12 monitors in the pit all from different cameras.

Next thing that happened Derek Bell driving a Rochmans Porsche stopped at our pit, lifted his door and said "Win has had a bad one on the Mulisane" then drove to his pit crew.
Pace car went out and 30 mins later a truck pulled in the pits with what was left of Wins Jag. No wheels, no box, no engine and a mangled cage/chassis.

The whole crew was fearing the worse when an ambulance sopped at our pit and Win walked out the back really shaken up. He left the track at over 200 mph, ended up on the roof a slid several hundred Mts.
The top of his crash helmet had worn away to expose just the foam lining.
He said "that's it, I'm never driving again" ............ he did

Most of the car including parts of the bodywork were recovered in the wood the following day.
The data froze at the time of impact and read 212 mph.

Nice one !.

It's a crying shame motorsport has gone down hill like it has huh?.

F1, Group C, and the Group B rally days will never be matched again.
Before long race cars will be either electric or similar and when that happens that will be sad.
Grandstands will be a thing of the past.

Current F1.s look worse than the old Formula 2's and before long will be wingless. They need to get old skool guys back running the FIA.
