Yeah you need an additional door motor fitted to the drivers door. The other 3 already have motors. And no you can't map the ecu. You either need a piggyback like a esl daugbterboard, or change the ecu altogether. Have a look on here for much better info, and also in the for sale section so you can get an idea on prices.

An ESL board is not a piggyback it converts your OEM ECU into an aftermarket ECU. More info:

I wouldn't be surprised. I had massive running issues which turned out to be my maf. Brought one off eBay for £18 sorted the prob. Apparently they are prone to going. Have you checked for a fault code? There are two plugs under the stearing column, one male one female that you connect to each other and give you a fault code by the cel flashing.
Search fault codes on here and you will find a thread with all the information you need.

Universal motors work mate but you will need to find a way to fix it to the door. My friend fits alarms for a living and did mine. They just use some metal strap and small self tapping screws. Just make sure the motor is in the right place before fixing and if you need to screw into the motor make sure the screw isn't to long and won't disturb any internal parts of the motor.

Universal motors from napkins bud. Work great and reliable. Only about 7 quid each. Just a 2 wire motor you need. And it will basically attach to the door and pull and push the locking rod. In turn will press the locking switch as if you did it manually and lock all other doors too. Where abouts are you bud. I can help if you get stuck.
