Default My new (to me) UK300

UK300 Number 52/300 - done just under 67k, picked it up on Sunday, to say I'm pleased would be an understatement! It has the PPP extras and a induction kit (which may come off) but is otherwise standard which is how I intend to keep it.

Quick arty photo before work this morning...

There are a few things I need to sort out, the power steering has a squeal, the handbrake needs adjusting, there are a few stone chips and the bulb in the dome light has gone but none of that is really serious in a car that is 11 years old and all fairly easily sorted. I'm still getting used to all the new noises and in mild paranoia mode (is it supposed to do that? is it broken?! OH GOD! oh... no, its ok) but its a real joy to drive.

Amusingly, it was first registered on the exact date of my 22nd birthday... fate?

Power steering squeal, is it when you approach full lock either end? If so, its a belt tightening or replacement job. Neither is difficult, If I can do it, anyone can.
Have a feel of the tension of the aux belt, the one that goes from centre to left of the block as you look at it, but more importantly feel the ridges of the belt. Mine had worn down so the outer two ridges had disconnected from the rest of the belt, giving me in effect three belts!! They are cheap as chips as well.

might be worth getting it up on a ramp and removing the engine under-tray and inspecting for rust as the bugeye shape suffers badly for corrosion underneath but it gets hidden by the undertray

It does do it lock-to-lock but it also squeals and 'judders' slightly at low speed. I've had a look at the belt in the dark and in my novice opinion it seemed a little slack (more than 1/4" play without using much pressure on it) so I thought I might as well swap it for the extra 5mins and few quid. I've a feeling the PAS fluid might need replacing too, the level is spot on but its pretty dark and might be the cause of the judder.
