Whats the Hawkeye like compared to the bug
Been thinking of coming back to the scooby fold soon, i used to have a Bugeye wagon that i had tuned up to 290 and 311lbft. Just wondering what the hawkeyes are like cos they seem to be going for good money now, also fairly low mileage. So are they much difference to the bug? are they more reliable? quicker? better handling? What are they like to mod?
Im currently driving a a4 avante and the scoob is only another 100 a year to insure.

The suspension has had a few tweaks over the years but essentially it's the same. The hawk has a faster steering rack IIRC but other than that, there's little difference in handling stakes.
The 2.5 engine has more low end torque and can be mapped to 280/290 as easily as the 2.0. However, the torque figure will be higher and can push the stock 5 speed.
Other than that, it's pretty much six of one, half a dozen of the other.
The thing to look out for on the hawks is that the later ones were caught by the top road tax band - early hawks are £265ish whereas the later ones are £400+ a year. So if it were me, I'd look for an earlier hawk or a late blob but TBH, I think I'd probably just buy the best example I could find and if that meant paying £400 road tax then I'd take the hit on the tax, moan about it once a year and then enjoy the car for the other 11 months of the year!
Bin the A4 and come back to a car with some soul - you know it makes sense! ;o)

I have an 07 Hawkeye and the tax is £445 a year where as a 06 is £285 (i think) so it`s something to keep in mind. The hawk is possibly the best looking one IF you ask me (byuss obvs)
