Default Mrs Swiss' New Ride

Yes it is not a scoob

She loves her golf so last weekend we drove all the way to Anglesey to collect it (hence the Welsh plates !! ) and drive it back home which was fun as we had the VR6 to compare it to on the way back.

It was not going to stay as it was for long that was for sure as she had some ideas on what she wanted done and this thread is already out of date as this evening we have made some more changes but for the time
being the first thing it needed was a damn good clean.

Me being me I was left in charge of the cleaning
So yesterday I spent a few hours doing the interior. I hoovered the entire inside and even dismantled the vents and cleaned them out ! Then wiped all the surfaces, glass and brushed down the seats and mats. I had picked up a replacement parcel shelf as the one was broken so fitted that and I also with the help of a VW mechanic, sorted out the failed drivers window motor.

Interior all clean

Then I tackled today the outside. This is the car before with a fair amount of muck on it.

A good rinse and claybar and then a damn good foaming. There is a mystic blue golf under there somewhere

Washed using the two bucket method as usual, it finally started to look much better. Then dried off with some waffle weave towels and all door shuts cleaned as well.
Next job was to wipe and stain all the plastic trim back to a decent black and a single coat of polish to bring up the great colour.
All the dirty tailgate areas were also cleaned.

Before

After

Aerial was perished so that needed fixing

Rear wash wiper was damaged so that was replaced

And finally some finished photos. Apologies for the amount of photos but she was so happy with how it has turned out and before it gets dirty again, better get them up

Still a few jobs to do. Because our driveway is get a bugger to get onto, the anniversary edition golf had that really deep front splitter. So took that off (hence why it has none ) and replaced it with a standard MK3 version today but it is still too low even with spring adjusters in. So will have to do a bit of trimming and lower the rear of the car.

Lights have ben changed from these ones to Hellas which she has on the VR6 and it looks much better already.
Replacement badges for the rear are on order and both VW badges will be blacked out in the future.

Car is going into the bodyshop in the next few weeks to get the rust on the roof sorted and some of the rust on the sills fixed.
Door sills are being sourced to replace the broken one

But for the time being, we hope you enjoy the photos.
She is well pleased with it .

It is indeed, not bad for a 16 year old car

We also adjusted the awful front camber you can see in these photos and I put some negative camber back in I've had to trim 32mm off of the bottom of the splitter in an attempt to make the car useable with a splitter on it because it's so low

The headlights are Hella's Chris not morettes

Good fun this afternoon mate and good to get all the cars sorted out I just need to stick that splitter back on and see if we've cracked it.

Cleaned up nicely. The seats are certainly an assault on the retinas.

Locking wheel nuts, seat covers , new badge etc can all be done
