As for products used, that can depend on colour, age and of course what imprefections you have on the car that you'd life to improve or remove.
Ive used SSR1-4 (poorboys), sonus SFX, 3M and all give good results! Megs are decent as well, but you'll have to go online rather than into a local motorfactors to find there good products!
Id advice to claybar any surface prior to buffing!
Good results for the first time! Love the wheels as well, would avoid the sponge and get yourself a nice lambswool or wookie mitt

Depending what your after, you can either use DOA or Rotary.

Id love to get into detailing properly but havnt really got the time Maybe through the summer ill spend more time on it. Problem is i dont really know what to do, what to use and in what order or anything!? This was just a simple wash with autoglym shampoo stuff and then buffed with auto glym polish using a cheap rotary polisher

Order wise;
Prewash using double bucket method / grit guard
or snow foam
dry using a magnet towel or microfiber drying towel, I've always tap dried as well, rather than rubbing the water down, tapping lifts it off.
Next you'd clay the car, sonus sell decent claybars for around £7.50
you'd then be looking at cleaning down the surface, autoglym resin is decent for hand use but remember it contains tcut! You'd want a decent pure polish.
Cleanser, gloss, wax, top coat seal. Normally double the gloss and wax as well. Better off using a wax such as the autoglym HD for basic use, great all round wax and easy to use, wax seal last 3~4 months if then rewashed with a phbalanced and wax friendly wash
Want any info let me know, been detailing myself for awhile

When I had my last Impreza which was a lovely red classic I was proper **** about cleaning it due to typical red paint pinking or dulling over time. I'd get weird looks from guys going to work in the morning then coming home in the afternoon seeing me STILL cleaning But the paint always looked immaculate, especially for a car with 140,000 miles when I sold it.
Maybe consider a pressure washer which helps shift dirt and crap before the washing stage as well as the snow foam.

One of the most important things to me is how clean a car is! It's why immaculate cars still sell and rusty ones don't! For me, not cleaning your car well is at a similar standard to putting Halfords oil in a subaru
With the correct process you can get great result by hand with any decent branded products!
One of my fave pictures after a detail;
Done via hand, using AG products only

I know that feeling! I'll start a detail at 9am, still be there at 5pm. So most of the time your there before & after the majority of people come and go to work! Can be a laugh tho!

Your DBM looks fab, love the spolier less look. Yellow lights set it off too with those wheels.
I'm wanting to POLISH my car, but not 100% sure what to do either.
Got the cherry snow foam with lance and a jet wash to pre wash the car, then hand wash.
But want to know what polisher is ok.. with what polish?
Clay bar.. when?
been looking at these on ebay...
Clay bar.. are they all the same??
http://shop.ebay.co.uk/?_from=R40&_t...&_nkw=clay+bar
a Polisher.. @£56
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/CAR-POLISHER-B...67978697812021
Does it really matter what polish you use?
I've always been happy with MER, AutoGlym as my main polishing liquids.
I also use ProShine spray (for quick polishing) and I've been happy with the spray on DemonShine when I want a fast shine after a wash and dry.
I too used to have a RED (colour code 559) scoob. i never had any dodgy looking red on the car panels because I kept up to keeping it clean and well polished.
xtremewheels... I'll pop round to yours!

Cheers mate, takes awhile but always worth it!
You can find so much info out there on products, just depends what your after. Never always believe what you see and read on products themselfs as they can be very misleading!
You claybar prior to polishing as it removes dirt that on average you can't see, feel or remove via a simple wash/snow foam etc. I'd always highly recommend claying a car prior to machine or hand buffing, otherwise you'll just reswirl another area in the process.
Wash the car with your snow foam lance, dry it down & then you'd be looking at claying the car ready for any polish or paint correction work.
I got my buffer from MachineMart, believe it cost me just over £100 a couple of years ago, wouldn't mind a little Meg's buffer as well as the one I have is great for large working areas but a little on the heavy side even with smaller pads it can still prove a challange.
Have a look or browse on some detailing sites, can PM some over if you'd like
AG products are decent, but used for general use and hand use mainly. When moving to brands such as collinite/poorboys etc you'll find more indepth and focused products, example would be the poorboys SSR polish range, SSR1 is the weakest, but still idle for light/fresh swirl removal. However, it moves up the range to SSR2/3 & 4 all increasing the strenght of the polish to increase there cutting results.
Detailing is trial and error! Find whats best for you as everyone will be different!
If you want any info just send me a PM with what your after and I'll send you some info/links over from the ones I use
