Phippy, did you buy the car privately or from a dealer? It sounds very much like headgaskets I'm afraid. Approx £800 but someone who has had to doit will come on and let you know.

You dont have to have white smoke on a hg leak, it all depends where the hg has gone, but it does sound like a hg issue, I would stop driving said car and take it to be tested, if you continue driving it may damage the block or worse, if you warp the heads then you will need them skimming, that will add to your bill.

Ive just had the same problem mate. Thought it was the water pump originally but changed that and it looks like the headgasket. I know how you feel.

Tell me about it. Just the gaskets will set you back around £200. Thought id cured mine when the waterpump was changed. Warmed up to temp and all was fine then took it for a spin and got back to find water flooding out of the overflow. Even considerd breaking the car last week. Decided id miss it too much though. Stick at it mate

How is that? Is it sold as seen? Not sure what the laws are regarding dealers.

Some dealers won't give a warrentey due to the age of some cars. It just comes down to how good natured the dealer is.

The Sale of Goods Act 1979 states that, if you can show the goods to be faulty, not fit for their purpose or misdescribed, you have, for a short time after purchase, a right to reject them and get a refund of the purchase price. Therefore, if you have only had the car for a very short time, have only driven a few miles and you discover a major problem, you are probably entitled to reject it and get your money back plus the return of a ‘traded in’ car, if there was one, or its value if it has been disposed of.

Sounds like the problem was that before you bought it.

28 days?

might be a bit much, quite alot can happen in 28 days, not to mention mileage, id like to see the rules/laws on this. get inovled with cars a fair bit, wouldnt want someone coming back to me saying they want a full refund, and try giving me a broken car back in return for there money.

as above sounds like the head gasket is failing under boost, as for the dealer i would take it back, there is is no such thing as no warranty when you buy a car from a dealer, my ex brother in law found this out may years ago when he sold a dodgy Citroen and got bent over in court because of it.

Get the car checked out by a pro and get a full report documenting any issues including costs for repairs / parts and labour. It may even be possible to estimate when fault happened by the extent of the damage. This could cost but the long term cost of not carrying this out may be far greater. I would go as far to say this level investigation would hint that you are not about to be pushed over. Arm yourself and go back to the dealer.
