Default Budget track cars !

To cut a long story short, I am pondering taking on a small track project when I sell my motorbike this spring as most of my mates have sold theirs and i now have a baby so time to settle down lol.

I have had various decent cars in the past and my current steed's arent too shabby but not ideal for taking out on track as they need to stay reliable and practical.

I am looking at a budget of about £1 - 1.5k so I can put some money back into the bank. So... lets see what you guys have put together on a tight budget, happy to see links to other websites etc aswell as i am open to all ideas.

Cheers all, Dave

I'm tempted with a 205 GTi... seems you can get a fair bit out of 'em for very little.

Mate has a Carolla saloon, few mods like stripped out, bucket seat, lowered etc, owes him just over £300 so far, and that includes buying the car ;]

the advantages of the wider track on the 306 far outway the extra couple of hundred quid the gti6 will cost over the 205. Thing is most of the quick 205 gti track cars are runnng gti6 engines or mi 16 engines, some have even adapted the wider beam to fit on a 205 maxi style body. Lets face it the 1.9 engine is not quick anymore unless equiped with throttle bodies. Standard they had 125hp sooped up you may get 150ish, the gti6 engine has 167 standard and with a bit of trickery can get up to the dizzy heights of 200 with out to much hardship

we bought this from the bay early last year, complete with slicks and wets and its a championship winner in its day, we got the lot for under £500 but haven't had time it use it yet
its got about 140 brake, bored out to 1.8 on twin40 downdraughts and on a vw golf gearbox, full leda coilovers, we've bought vented discs and calipers from a 2.0 mg to upgrade from the solid discs its got at the mo!

Pug 205 gti is the way to go, I'm in the middle of building a 205 gti6 now and for the availability of spare parts and other odd's and sod's, you cant go wrong.

Small, light weight and seriously quick car.

A Pic of my last one :
