And that ladies and gentlemen, is why my machine has its roof brush working on a simple counterweight system, simples!
Rollover washes that travel backwards and forwards over a static car are the ones i would personally avoid.

It cost me my £250 excess. The garage company have a disclaimer with a sign saying that any car with a spoiler should not use the car wash. At the time of the incident, the sign wasn't as prominent as it was a few days later.

I pulled into one the other day, thinking it was a hand jobbie, turned out to be a machine one, one of the guys ran out and said NOOOO. He said the brushes would possible rip the bonnet off!! Had to reverse out....

Dan, the hot air dryer was making its first traverse from back to front when its sensors failed to detect the presence of the boot lid and it carried straight on instead of lifting, catching the boot lid on the lock area and causing the boot lid to spring open slightly. The dryer somehow cleared the boot lid spoiler but then failed to sense the rear window, pressing into it and shattering glass to all parts of the car, sounding like a bomb going off. I tried to duck out at the first sound of impact but the washer brushes were still rinsing the front doors. I just curled up in a ball in the driver's seat until it was all over. Good job I did otherwise I could have been cut to bits when the rear window glass exploded. Luckily not a scratch. I then rang the missus to come and sweep up.

That's awful dude - just be thankful you didn't have kids or animals in the back, otherwise things could have been far worse..... hope you get it all fixed up soon!!
I'd actually been meaning to post a question about putting the scoob through a car wash, as i wasn't sure if it would be a good idea with the scoop and vents. No need to ask now though - this thread has most definitely put me off!!!

Thanks for the concern, lads, but as I posted at the start
'This is what can happen at a car wash with a faulty mechanism.
It occured a couple of years ago with my previous WRX.'
Car repaired on insurance, cost me my £250 excess, garage company denied liability. All done and dusted now.

Years ago I put my 4 day old company car through a car wash and the mechanism jammed causing the brush(es) to badly scratch the front bumper. Garage man tried to say there was a no claimer but ALL of the people buying petrol backed me up and garage paid for repair
Best part of this story is that I was hundreds of miles away from home and didn't have a clue who any of the people were

Cheap car sponges hold small stones and grit and can scratch your car. the best way to wash your pride and joy is with either a wash mitt or as the professional detailers use, a sea sponge and have a grit and gravel seperator at the bottom of your bucket, rinse the car before you sponge simples!
Then chamois dry and use a hand clay to remove any fine dirt out of scratches and use a carnuaba wax, or if you are feeling really flush use a wax called ZYMOL ROYALE check the price of it out you will be shocked.
