Smile Bored!!! 2 Hour Bugeye Headlight mod

Had a very boring weekend, so i decided i would be brave and try to black out the chrome on my Bug.
As it happens i was supprised at how easy it was to do, and how easy the headlights came apart. Was worried about putting them in the oven but, no probs here and it made it very easy to get them apart.

Very happy with the results, think it looks alot better. So just thought i would post some images.
(any excuse)

I want to change the wheels altogether, I've gone off them somewhat just funds don't permit right now. They were already on the car when I bought it.

Having them powder coated may well be my next mod, and is certainly cheaper than new wheels.

That looks much better - good job!

(And before this spirals into a spelling/grammar thread - I think that you meant 'bored/boring' )

Hi,

Looks great, I have the Morettes but getting fed up with them, so might but a set of lamps and try this myself.

What paint did you use for the lights and what did you do with the indicator area?

cheers

I used high temp paint from halfords £4.99, just removed the 'frame' piece from the inside of the light. Removed the sidelight, and indicator caps/covers and painted the whole chrome ''frame piece''
Clipped the bulb covers back in, and put it back together.

Don't know how legal it is, in terms of reflective areas etc, but i'm sure there ok for "show use"

Guess they do

I warmed the light unit again to soften the original seal, then pushed unit back together, then finished with Loctite, clear silicone.
Worked a treat,
