New Pioneer TS-WX77A Sub :)
Hi guys, just thought I'd post up a few pics of what I got up to last weekend. Okay so that sounded a bit dodgy, but it's not don't worry!! Been wanting a new sub for a while cuz my old one died and I hate listening to music without bass! I wanted one that didn't take up much space in the boot this time, so after a bit of looking around, I ended up getting this Pioneer TS-WX77A sub with a built in amp......
Lovely bit of kit! It's 890mm wide by 350mm deep, and only 80mm tall! It's unlike any amp/sub combo I've ever seen.....not only looks wise, but the way it works aswell. There are no controls on the amp whatsoever, it's all done by a wired remote that comes with it, and for all the audio connections & power etc, there is only ONE plug that goes into the amp! It's like a harness adaptor thing on the back of a car stereo, and everything goes into that one plug. Here it is.......
I was thinking I'd just use all my connections from my old sub and just slap this one in there like, but instead of cutting up things and putting connector blocks everywhere etc, I decided to take all the old wiring out & do it properly. I had nothing else better to do anyway! And so it begins!.....
All the bits of trim etc are so easy to take on & off on Imprezas, unlike my old car which you could never put back together right! Most akward bit out of the way now, getting the power lead through from the engine bay into the car.......
All the leads are as far as the passenger footwell now.......
We've been having stunning weather these past few weeks, and the minute I decide to go outside and do something, look at the bloody state of it!!.......
So yeah it started to **** down then, lovely! Had to go inside for a cuppa then lol. Back to work then as soon as it stopped! Half way between the old wiring coming out and the new wiring going in......
My handy snake toy that helped me get the wires through all the fiddly gaps thanks to the long bendy wire coming out the back of his head!! lol.....
I know if you're a proper audiophile then you're not meant to even run the power & phono leads down the same side of the car, let alone strap em together like this, but I don't care, this made it so much easier, and lets be honest, most of us wouldn't notice the sound difference. There's no interference or anything, so that's fine by me.......
Finally got all the wires where I want em (in the boot!).......
Here's the wired remote that you control everything from.....
I like the idea of being able to control the sub from the driver's seat, rather than having to get out & go into the boot like with my old one, but.......I didn't really want that remote stuck on my dashboard anywhere! I tried it everywhere, but could not come up with a decent idea for a place. And then I had an idea!.......
Wahey! Out of sight, and also out of the reach of fidgety passengers! Lovely!
So here it is!.......
It doesn't take up much space in the boot, considering how big it is.....
Well, it's not really big, or it wouldn't be a space saving sub, but it's nearly a metre wide, so y'know what I mean!
Am very VERY happy with it It's awesome!! I strongly reccommend anyone who wants to add a nice bit of bass to their system and doesn't wanna take up much room in the boot, to BUY ONE!! I'm running a pioneer DEH-P7500MP head unit, all the speakers are standard subaru, and it sounds mint!! The sub won't really go rediculously loud, cuz it's only 200W, but it does stunning bass for something that's only 80mm thick. I really don't understand how it does it! It's better on 'flowing' bass, like in drumb 'n' bass sorta thing, rather than 'boom boom' bass in dance music......but it's still really good all round. Also really good havin the controls up the front, cuz if the next tune that comes on has got a bit too much bass, just turn it down a little bit on the controls
Sorry for the long & boring write up, and probably too many pics of something you've all seen loadsa times before! Hope it was of use to some of you tho

thanks for posting this up, i think this is the answer to many people's woes of big bass boxes, leave plenty of room
be interesting to hear the actual sound reproduction.
I have one of the subaru 8" sub things that fits under the passenger footwell, that is only about 75mm deep and about 350 x 400mm which is ok'ish but i put up with it cos i dont want to loose the boot space or weigh it down by half a tonne lol

I was looking at these last week, as I need a bit of bass but don't want to go the full works.
Looks like I will be ordering one now.
Great write up on the installation as well mate.

Great install. I would not know where to begin with doing something like that. Where the sub is stationed, could you not of mounted it on to the back of the seats and sacrifice the split fold?

Cheers for all your comments guys
I got it for £179.99 from here........
Audio 66: Pioneer TS-WX77A Only £179.99, Car Entertainment Car Navigation Experts,
I did actually think of trying to mount it on the back of the seats, but there isn't quuuiiiitttteeee enough room, and also it's quite heavy so don't really know how you'd fix it there. The packaged weight is 19kg, so I don't know what the actual unit weighs on it's own. It comes with brackets you can screw to the car somewhere, and then fixing straps to put round the sub & the brackets sorta thing. I just put a strip of velcro up each end on the underneath of it, and it hasn't moved an inch

Well it won't compare to that no!! My old sub was 800w and it doesn't really compare to that, so it definitely won't compare to two 1000w ones!! Actually that's a lie, it does compare with my 800w one. It delivers equally as good bass until you just try and go mentally loud with it, that's all.

great write up, never seen that model of sub before. i'm also in the market for a amp/sub but reluctant to stick a carpeted shed in my boot, so that might be just the trick
