Heat Shields dont really shield heat per sa...your engine is enclosed under your bonnet so all the air under there is trapped and going to be warm. Closer to the engine surface the air will be alot hotter but since an induction cone filter is not sealed inside a case it just draws in air around it, the temperature of the air on one side of the heat shield will be exactly the same as the other. They are purely cosmetic parts. Even with a cold air feed, if the route isnt sealed the cold air flies out the other end of the feed and is lost with the warm air under the bonnet. When the car is sat in traffic or driving it 'stop, go, stop, go' around town for example there is very little, if any ram air coming into the intake. The induction cone will just suck in all that hot stale air under the bonnet.

Stick with the stock air intake system or get an enclosed cone filter and route a sealed cold air feed...like mine!
