Top Notch Paint Job - And Cheap!
So pleased with a "freshen up", I thought I'd share the results (just hope the link works - never done this before).
I've had my MY95 WRX wagon for 18 months as a day car (I'm lucky - also got a P1 for the weekend!). Not surprisingly for a 13 year old car, the bodywork was a bit tatty to say the least. I vowed never to spend on it (all cash reserved for the main event) - until my local garage man suggested a friend who he said could do a "good tidy up that won't cost a fortune."
I remained sceptical but decided to give it a go - and boy am I impressed with his handiwork. Don't get me wrong, it's not "mint" but there again I didn't pay "mint" rates by a long shot.
Here's where I paste the link from Photobucket and hope it works...

er?
Ah, that doesn't quite look right to me - the link goes to my Photobucket account. Pics are there to see, but the idea was to have them in the thread. Someone sort me out please?

paint
Put it this way - every panel (and I do mean every panel) had marks on it of some sort, from stone chips to car park dings to a couple of deep scrapes on the hind quarters. The paintwork generally looked tired; OK in places but blotchy. No amount of polishing got rid of it. From a distance, you couldn't really tell, but up close and personal it just looked untidy. I took a gamble (based on my mate's recommendation) on his offer to "tidy it up" for a few hundred quid rather than a complete re-spray, which I know runs into four figures for the Full Monty.
If my other half knew I'd spent what I did on a motor that's probably only worth £2.5K, I'd be needing more than a re-spray... but she doesn't (yet) and I'm chuffed. It doesn't look like a "new car" but it has made enough of a difference that I thought I'd share my good fortune with the fraternity.
I know you're gonna say "but how much?" Let's put it this way, it was more than £600, but less than £1,000 - and that's as much as I'm prepared to say.

hmm
Hear what you're saying but you needed to see what it was like before - machine polishing wouldn't have sorted it out, not by a long way. In the past, when thinking about spending some dosh, I got some quotes and every one was way into four figures - what I got was (relatively) on the cheap, but it's not a cheap finish, that's why I'm so pleased.
And thanks to all for linking the pix into the thread. I'll know better next time.
Cheers

right
You could be right Mr Simpson! Don't know how long the enthusiasm for reborn Mr WRX will last, though - much as it gives me a warm glow on da inside to have a nice, clean, shiny car, at the end of the day the P1's looks float my boat and it is sooooo much better to drive. For now, I'm just enjoying the moment. If there were more hours in the day, it might be a different matter...perhaps I should consider early retirement and a life of bread, water and super unleaded? Oh yes - and DIVORCE!

Looks good mate
Im having mine done this weekend by my mate who is a spray painter in the RAF.
I have bought the paint (Another pal in the trade) £170.00 for everything, paint, thinners, hardner, laquers, primer, plastic primer etc.
Mate to spray it £150.00 forhis holiday fund...cant wait
Only thing is im prepping myself but done it plenty of times...just takes timeForgot to mention all panels are marked almost, with the addition of Silver spoiler, black 22b front bumper, mica red later grill, black 22b side vents, black sti bonnet scoop, white wrc roof scoop and skirts, mirrors, rear spats and handles to be colour coded.
