Default Pic request: Classics with big scoops

Thinking about getting one, mainly to aid cooling because i have heard the air goes over the top of the early scoops at high speeds. As many pics as you can please guys, and if anyone would like to say where they got it from and how much, feel free

That looks well WRONG! dont do it, its way too big.
Go for the front mount intercooler if you want more air in there

Sure, fat ugly girls do get married, but you will always be disappointed with what you have.

Face it, the big scoop on a classic looks terrible.. no matter what your argument for it is. Each to their own though....

My suggestion... if cash is the problem, save for an extra month and buy the Hybird FMIC from Harvey or BOB5 in the Trader announcements/GB section....

Does a Front mount Intercooler increase bhp? Am only wondering this because uprated intercoolers used to increase bhp on Gran Turismo.

Front mounts add weight to an already front heavy car, reduced air flow to the radiator. Unless your making big power, a top mount can support 300+ whp. And top mounts are the real reason why there's a hood scoop, other wise it's rice.

I've got the sti ver 7 style scoop from DRMotorsport. Its opening is 1" higher than the standard scoop and retains the standard look so doesn't look out of place.

all true, but a fmic is far better at maintaining lower charge temperatures and not being directly in the engine bay much more resistant to heat soak...you pays your money and makes your choice, I don't like the scoop so fmic for me

if you buy a scoop you will have to paint it aswell £££££££. its pretty much the same price for a fmic anyway.

Fmic means more lag, stick with a top mount, get a sti 8 top mount and for more air flow get a zero sport duct for under the bonnet. i would only use a fmic if i was going over 400bhp.

imo tho

Nicky

back on topic

you can also use an ic splitter that ensures there is air flow over the entire surface of the ic...have a look in technical, loads of info on this in there

I have a white classic sti impreza. This week ive just fitted a fmic because i wanted to keep my intake temps down, but im also guna fit a peanut/bugeye carbon fibre scoop for look value. Also a big scoop will draw air over the top of the engine and down the back to the underside. Thus getting rid of hot air. Ive had a peanut eye scoop on a classic before - caused one problem tho i coudnt see the front nearside corner of the car which made parking a bit more difficult. I say go big scoop as the benifits are greater engine and intercooler cooling whereas peoples opinions are just what they think.
