Pic Request 215/35/18 OR 225/35/18
As title really,
I have pff7's and hear that 215 tyres are over streched on the 8 inch wide alloy and is not safe, so i want to see how much bigger the side wall of the 225 looks on an actual wheel,
Any help much appriciated

Ive just been asking the same about a 225 on a 17 and the answer I got was that type r's take them better but a normal classic may rub depending on ride height? Doesnt seem to be a correct anwser.

A 215 tyre is much too stretched when fitted to 8'' wide wheels
putting up with terrible low speed handling and tramlining may be one thing but the complete and utter lack of rim protection is another
..just look at the angle of the sidewalls in this pic,ok it may vary from different manufacturers(those are toyo's)but...
edit:..and even then with people in the back the rears rubbed

215/35/18 is the size to go for, lowered 50mm but no rubbing at all.

I really cant make my mind up now, the 215 look streched on some but not on others, then the 225 look great on some but a little big on the side wall on others, its all seems to be down to tyre make and the width of the alloy,
Keep them coming, i need to order soon,
Only problem is that the 225 are not available on mytyres.com which is by far the cheapest place around, they only sell the 215's, i have always had Toyo T1S and fancy trying the much hyped Goodyear F1's
More advice and pic please, the dilemma thickens

Found another pic of my classic, lowered on coilovers... could carry 5 people and still no catching, wheels just went straight up in the arch...
Just stay away from curbs with a 35 profile and you'll be fine, both my classics I run 215/35/18's on and I prefered the way they drove to the 17's both had on before the wheel change...
215/35/18's are the most common supplied package for a classic...

Cheers Elma, head against a wall is exactly how i feel,
the 215's look sweet on a 7.5 wheel but as mine are actual pff7's they are 8 inchs wide and will look different than the 7.5's as the tyre will be more streched,
Anyone got any more pics or advice on the 8x18 wheel, thanks for the advice so far guys, great responce

Falken 452 might be a better bet for you? They are pretty narrow for a 225/40/18 tyre ie crap rim protection again, but at around £80 each or less and they handle well enough

If you were to buy 18's from Subaru for your classic back in the day, they would come with 225/35/18 tyres. Well they did for P1's. So I assume it's the same for every other classic.

Mine are Falken FK452s, 215/35/18.
And it appears that I am not careful around curbs ...
... perhaps I don't deserve her!!
I've heard that the Eagle F1's have a better wall so the rims are more protected. I'll be getting some fitted once I've had the wheels refurbed!

With Elmer on this one
215's are fitted to the wheel/tyre packages from Non-Subaru manufacturers because as a rule, they have the imperfect offset on their wheels. This means using the 215 tyre to stop the tyre rubbing on bodywork/suspension etc...
For example, on a classic, the P1 optional wheels are et53, and came with 225/35 tyres
Most of the Rota/Innovite/Ultralite etc.. wheels come with et42-et48 which means they sit further out than the et53.
Also as Elmer says, 8" rims need at least 225 width tyres, or you risk breaking the rim seal when cornering hard (Just ask FMS ) and getting an instant flat tyre!!

225 40 18s on my classic too, with geniune fittment wheels - OZ P1 18s
according the tyre size calculater this was the closest match to the stock wheel/tyre diameter. no scraping the arches either.
(photo taken after collision with curb reason why things look out of shape!)
