Unhappy

Now that I have calmed down a bit, I thought I would share with you the mishaps of a wet Sunday afternoon. Now those of you that know me, know that I fit truely into the Sunday driver category, so it's peeved me off even more that this happened. Still, I'm glad I was doing under the 40 limit when it happened or things might have been very different.

Anyone got any estimates on damage costs? Insurers may be picking it up today (hopefully).

Steve

Shame.....
Question though....can you "save" that front bumper - I am after one & that doesn't look too badly damaged. ????

Ro you vulture

I can ask the people when they come to pick it up. They will have to return the car to me anyway. I'll ask if I can have all damaged parts back as a 'memento'.

Privilege insurance have so far been very good in sorting stuff out. Waiting on call to see if it is picked up today (I'm hopeful). Subaru Assist were extremely good and helpful and I can't thank them enough and Subaru for selling it in the price of the car. Let's hope you don't need to use them like I did though.

Really bizarre thing is that people were going round that corner faster than me. I'm sure the car was unseated from the road somehow, but without a replay I'll never know. It's hard at the mo cos I keep telling myself, 'If I had done this then maybe it wouldn't have happened'. Still, it has, and now I just have to wait for the services that I pay for to do their bit.

Thanks Hanslow - sorry - didn't mean to jump on your misfortune like it sounded !!
If the bumper is OK-ish then am more than happy to offer you something for it. I guess it will require some attention - but I am hoping only cosmetic - keep me informed.
Hope its all sorted quickly !

Hanslow,

Sorry to hear about the accident m8! Glad you survived ok and that was under 40 mph, it can be a lesson to us all I would hate to see a crash at 70 on a motorway involving a scooby.

Could you post a link to the Scoobynet Picture Uploader for me I seem to have lost it?

Thanks for the concern gents....I like, no I love the scooby community

Osama, I don't use the image uploader, they're all posted on my meagre NTL webspace, sorry.

Ro, the car has just been picked up and I asked the bloke what happened to all the replaced bits and he said they get thrown into a skip. I asked if I could keep them all as a memento and he said that he would tell the fitters. Hopefully, I might get the front lip back, and a slightly bent bonnet

Will need to wait and see now to find out what they do with it. Does anyone know what happens if they write it off? Can I get things back from it like my stereo?

So far, good service from Privilege insurance Will be a point in their favour when looking for renewals (which I'm not looking forward to).

Similar knock to mine.

I had a meeting with the back Of a Merc - no damage to his but £3500 to mine. Strange !

Good luck in your repairs !

Hanslow,

Bad luck mate, I have only ever smashed up one car and I remember how completely numb and gutted I felt. It didn't help that I bought the car on 12 months finance and could only afford to insure it Third Party Fire and Theft. Two months after I bought it I wrote it off. Now £3300 isn't much to me now but at the time I was only earning £9500 a year and it seemed like a fortune. Seeing the direct debit come out of my account for £300 each month for a car I didn't even own anymore REALLY hurt!

Anyway to write the car off the damage needs to be 60% of the value of the car. I think your car is a MY00 so book value is roughly 14K. This means unless the damage is £8400 or over they will repair the car.

I am certainly no expert but I would guess there is not £8400 worth of damage there so they will indeed repair it.

You're gonna be looking at around the £3K mark for that little lot I would have thought. Glad you're OK and joking about it.

Thanks Mike and thanks everyone else

Mike, you have to joke about it really. It's happened now, no-one was injured, only my motor, pride and a highways barrier Main thing is that all people are OK

Will be happy to have it repaired and returned. Will probably going in to dealer/specialist to have the once over if/when I get it back.

It's my first accident in a car so it was very numbing, and I wasn't very clued up on accident procedure. You live and learn

Phil

Full details are here http://www.scoobynet.co.uk/bbs/threa...threadid=66375

Vehicle was picked up at 16:00 this afternoon by a thorouhgly nice chap who made a note of all the things I pointed out to check and double check Just got to wait now and see what they say.

Kath was actually impressed with my driving She reckons that if she had been driving she would have probably hit the other car and god knows what would have happened then. The car can be fixed/replaced so apart from the inconvenience (and the insurance excess, claim issues etc.) then I ain't that fussed cos no-one was hurt.

Kath told me she was a bit tentative today on the road Wait till I get back out there....you guys thought I drove slowly before I'm gonna make my tyres last 20 years

Nice to have good friends that I know, and some that I don't supporting through this

Sorry to here about your accident.

By the way my Insurance was £900 in the end, but minus about £100, which they bung on as im in the licensed trade and a poor postcode.
If the car was in Stratford it would have been £700.

Cool

Glad no one was hurt except the repairable Scooby..

I'll have to find the pictures of my last Scooby.. it will make you feel a lot better...

It had about a 80+mph front impact (head on with a VW People carrier) all my fault etc... these things happen.

Where about's on the ring road the ring road did it happen?
I am currently in Derby working during the week and my Green Monster takes me round the ring road everyday.

Glad you are okay

JGM, it was on a road called Darwin Place. We had left the train station to head back towards Nottingham. Darwin Place is the lovely ( ) road that is almost a complete circle that leads you on to the A52.

Ain't going there again in a hurry. Friend who lives there says he has seen many a car almost lose it on there and heard of a number that had

JGM, look for the nice dent in the highways barrier on the right hand side...that was me that was

Jza, don't think the car was at fault at all. Drove over to Derby, no problems. Up until we hit that bend no problems.

Although I hadn't mentioned it before, I don't think the new Toyo T1s helped in that they had only covered 50 miles. Wasn't pushing the car at all, but I think they helped it glide as they weren't worn in enough (I think).

Nice slippy manhole cover probably didn't help either
