Got to wait and see now what happens. Will they repair the car or write it off? I'm thinking repair.... Insurance is due end of Feb, I had 4 yrs protected no-claims. Don't know how much this will put on the policy though Plus it hasn't got a tracker and if Privilege demand one before renewing my policy I will need to get one. If I don't and transfer to another insurance company, I believe I'm shafted as the protection is only with the company that I took it out with....is that right? And here was me looking forward to getting to 5 years no claims. Looks like I'm stuck at 4 for a little while longer. If I have a claim free year from 2002 to 2003, does that mean I will have 5 years NCB completely transferrable with no strings?
Could be what I needed to make me sell the car and get something cheaper so that we can move house. Dunno though, I'm speculating. Can't make a decision until insurance company gets back to me.
To be honest, the best outcome for me would probably be to write it off, but that's not to say I don't want it fixed. Just want it sorted.

Pete,
The Comets survived intact. I made sure the bloke who picked the car up wrote down that I wanted them fitted again and fully aligned. I'll double check all the work done anyway before I sign to say I am happy with the car.
I also mentioned that they were non-standard fit and took us 13 hours to fit them

As this is not my thread I will be brief
Basically exiting an "s" bend at 55mph,got it wrong, dropped into 6ft ditch bounced out and then rolled over.9 stitches to left hand few glass cuts and bruises. Wont be doing that again (hopefully, touch wood).

Bleedin hell JGM At least mine wasn't that bad
Spoken to insurance company and repair place. Insurance has approved the repairs. Estimate was 3100 quid. Two new wings, new bonnet, new front lip, new radiator + header tank + cooling fan, plus straightening on a jig () and hopefully sorting out my gouged new tyre. The should also be refitting my hella custom job driving lights that took me and PeterPerfect 13 hours to fit
Was told (on 30th Jan) that it will be 3 weeks minimum, so probably about a month or so provided all the parts are available. Minor inconvenience having to cycle the 4 miles to work, but at least I get my car fixed and I can get on with designing my custom gauge setup
All in all, provided the work is done to my satisfaction, Privilege insurance have been very good for me. Interestingly, last time I had to make a claim (for theft from my renault 5 ) about 1995, I was with Direct Line, sister company of Privilege....maybe I should steer clear of them in future
Feel a lot better about it all now, knowing that it is being fixed is a great relief. Will be booked into TSL soon after for some tea and biscuits....may as well get the geometry setup properly again while I'm scoffing

Ro,
They are replacing the front bumper. I asked about keeping the bits as memoribilia, but the woman said that they become the property of the insurance company so I can't keep them. As far as I can tell, it was only scratched so a quick respray would have probably done you a treat.
Sorry mate

Quick update. Was told car would be delivered this afternoon
Took afternoon off work to inspect workmanship of insurer approved garage....got phone call from head honcho there telling me that he wasn't happy with the valet and some of the work
Proceeded to ask why he wasn't happy and was told the front lip wasn't fitted correctly and some screws needed tightening Hope these weren't on the wheels
I've now booked tomorrow off work having been told it would be ready then. Was worried when the garage broke both rules of being a garage. Firstly they finished two days earlier than I was told, secondly they rang me before I could hassle them for progress.
Hopefully I will be getting the motor back tomorrow. I'm going to be going over it with a fine tooth comb and moaning like hell about anything I don't like. Plus I know the mileage it went in with so anything over 20 or so more miles and I will be asking why.
Guess I should have gone with a Subaru dealer for the repairs and I wouldn't be worried about the quality of work.....
My main concern is that they haven't done anything about the gouge in my tyre (from what I could gather). Was told that insurance inspector and their engineer couldn't find one.....see below.....
Not sure whether it will be OK to drive on this? Any ideas? If I ain't sure I will ring insurance company and see if they will cover the cost for a new tyre (the others have only done 50 miles) and get it done at TSL. The tyre ain't deflating at all but I don't know how thick they are and how much it may have weakened it.
Will be posting piccies when I get the motor back so you can compare the handiwork.....fingers crossed

Glad you are getting your motor back, got mine back on Thursday. If the nick in the tyre is down to the accident then they will replace it. Best to speak to the assessor to see if he noticed it. I have still got a couple of little bits on mine that need replacing, because you don't spot them until you can spend time with it (cleaning).
Failing that I have a spare toyo in the garage

Dave, how do you have a spare Toyo in the garage??????
Is it new? I'll see how it goes tomorrow, and if I want to err on the side of caution (after getting it checked at TSL) I will email you about it
This is of course assuming they haven't changed it....but I have a feeling they won't have done it even though I pointed it out

Car is back now Good news and (very slightly) bad news.
Good news: I can't tell it's been in an accident Drives well, and panels are all the right colour Popped over to TSL, Trouser said it looked a very good job. He almost succumbed to making me a cuppa, but let Lesley do it in the end (again) Tried to flog me some bits but I resisted....although I'm tempted
Bad news: Driving lights need aligning properly. They probably didn't want to start cutting all the bodywork up to make them fit. Looks like another 4 hours on the driveway to get them set up properly then Tyre has been left alone. Checked with TSL and they agree (with my second look) that it doesn't look too bad. Just got to keep an eye on it though.
All in all, very pleased with Privilege for sorting it out (£3500 bill, £350 excess paid by me ). Body shop was good, my worries about it being a Vauxhall place and the quality of the work were misplaced (thankfully).
Thanks to one and all for your support.....I'll be able to bore you all now with some DIY mods over the next few weeks
I'm happy for once instead of being my usual miserable git self
Cheers
Steve

Good news chap, I wasn't expecting you to get ya scoob back until next month so i'm well chuffed for ya dude.
After i took you for a spin at the weekend, i could tell you were dying to get back behind the wheel
By the way everyone, Hanslow did a spiffing job on taking my resonator thingy off, and the noises that the scoob makes now make me grin constantly
Seeya later dude.

Steve,
Glad to hear you'll be back on the road.
I had a gouge in my front nearside a month ago after hitting a bloddy great big manhole. I drove on the tyre for a week until I managed to get a new tyre fitted.
I've kept it as a spare, but everyone whose had a look told me that they wouldn't trust it - especially when the gouge is out of the side wall.
If it was me, I'd replace the tyre and then get the insurers to refund you.
Stefan

Thanks chaps I'll be the very slow silver MY00 around the Notts area
Nice to have the car back, as I was sick of cycling (too much like useful exercise) and the weather is a nightmare. At least I can sing along now whilst getting to work
Will be keeping an eye on my tyre, but it doesn't look too bad. Just happy to be freely mobile again

If you want to see something to make you cry, I'll post one of the pictures up of Naseem Hameds 22B after his "cousin" stuffed it up the back of a parked car, 10 minutes after we'd put a new front bumper on it?
