Grill mod on a WR Blue Hawkeye, Yes or No
Had a few minutes spare a couple of weeks ago so thought I'd go ahead with the grill mod, now I've had a mixed reaction to it, a fellow scobbynetter reckons it looks good but friends and the missus think its very Halfords.
What do you think, keep it or rip it off, for £2.99 it was worth a go either way!!
Thanks

Cheers Guys, I may have to keep it for a while then.
Scoobymad, there is a pair a PIAA horns behind the grill and Its looks quite good with them as they have a bit or red on them.
RB5, its quite a simple mod, first off you need to pull out the 2 sections of grill either side of the center, this will make it easier to remove the center section, once removed then strip it down by removing the 20+ screws at the rear, once you have the piece of black plastic on its own, run round it with a piece of red pinstripe (£2.99 from halfords) and tuck any overlap round the back. The straights are simple enough but the corners take a few attempts to get looking perfect, once done reassemble and your good to go.
Be brave when removing the grills as first time you take them off they are really stiff, I found a blunt flat screwdriver helped to remove some of the clips.
Hope that helps.

The side vents IIRC vary in size top to bottom and left to right and would be a lot harder to do, and someone else I sure will be able to confirm but I think the JDM model that has this as standard only has the center grill in red.

Behind the centre grill IIRC is where one of the original horns is mounted as standard, so I just used this pre tapped hole with the original bolt and mounted them both facing down at a 45 degree angle, I had to extend one of the wires as it did not quite reach this far.
Works pretty well but not as well as when I had them as per the below, used to scare the life out of people until I went through a big puddle and drowned them, had to drain stale water from each one which stank and took ages!!!

love it
I can't believe the pin stripe has stayed on so long.My original intention was to see how it looked and eventually get around to spraying the trim bit red.The trick is to apply the tape with a hairdryer to help it not wrinkle up around the corners
