There was an interview with a techical director from Subaru in either J-Tuner or Jap Performance a while ago, and one of the questions was that which was his personal favourite model of STI. His answer was also the version 3, his reasons were due to the technical improvements made on the previous version were so succesful and it was the dawn of a new era of Impreza.

Kind of **** job so far but it's coming along.
Sorry it's kind of a fake. It was a 1.8Litre wagon. But I rented a garage swapped the entire drivetrain with a version 3 STI wagon.
So here's a question. How well do the version 3 motors last? In the states the seem to fail a lot. Spun bearings are most common. Do your EJ20k motor age well?
cheers

Here is my WRX Version III STI RA V-Limited....
It's now sporting a facelift front bumper...and by the end of may will have fitted: A'pexi Power FC ECU (on my desk gathering dust), Blitz NUR Spec RX exhaust (arrives tomorrow!), A'pexi filter (taking up the back seat) and Exedy uprated organic clutch with 5kg flywheel...along with the silicone inlet hose, Zero-Sports Sports catted 3" downpipe, KYB AGX shocks and whiteline goodies it currently has.
