Wink Another Day Another Polish !

Hi guys... I've just got a few new ingrediants in my cleaning bag

Firstly before.....

During the Clay Bar...

Why does PB re-size my pics

Gave the car another wash after the Clay Bar... now ready for the Polish to go on

About now the final coat goes on.... the deep gloss shine comes out

How's that ?

Thought I would take more than enough for reference

Let me know what you think of the finish... I really think a machine polish would do the car a world of good then I have a scratch free and swirl free base to start from.

Looks as if the paint has got a nice deep shine to it
If you can tell the differance on here then it must be good, i,ll see you tomorrow for a full inspection
I bet the cat has trouble gripping the body work now
How long did the whole process take?

Cheers Kev

Don't talk to me about cats

It took a while

Friday evening.... 3 hours wash and Clay

Saturday on and off say 5 hours wash and 2 stage wax

I'm knackered

The paintwork is very smooth you can really see what the clay bar does, another couple of quick coats of the final stage wax and it should really get that deep wet look even more

Of course you can ask

The clay bar gets the grime off... tar, sap, insect remains and old wax.

Basically it looks like a lump of putty... you wet the car with a spray on detailer and mould the bar soft then wet it with the spray and rub it on the paintwork looks and feels strange but it certainly smooths and cleans the car for new polish to be applied to.

This is not mine but you can see the dirt in it... you fold that in constantly so you rub clean on the car then after you finished if it is really dirty throw it away or keep it for another time.

The hard work on mine has been done for a while now all I need to do is wax it a few more times and build up the depth of shine.

ah i can see the use now. sorry if this sounds boring but il write a quick method on how i clean my car. please point me in the right direction...
  • firstly i hose her down with cold water. (the hose is always clean and connected to indoors taps, not dirty outdoors ones)
  • i then mix up a bucket of my turtle wax wash stuff (cost me a bit and gets nice and suddy)
  • wash the whole car with the shampoo, leaving the wheels untill last. i use a soft sponge on all the car...
  • hose her down again... all over
  • use my soft silicone squeegee to rub off excess water and then use soft clean towel (usually the mrs' one!!) to rub the car dry
  • i then apply the polish (couldnt tell you what it is, my uncle is a valeter and swears by the stuff) with a proper cloth and buff it off with another, folding over the dirty surface area as not to scratch the paintwork.
  • do the same with the wheels
  • then use my turtle wax window claner to do the ins and out of all windows.
thats a usual routine for me. but i have recently bought some wheel cleaner for the grime and brake dust, some more decent polishing cloths, and some turtle wax erm... wax. have to apply that though with a damp cloth.

i try use decent quality materials without going ott on prices and millions of different things. it takes me ages and just want to know if im doing things right as your car looked awesome. mines a silver scoob btw.

Thanks for that pleased you like it

Here we are a FEW more showing the springs in more detail, they are H&R with a -50mm drop in reality they have dropped the car 25-30mm against the standard turbo springs.

Go into the car care section mate & have a look at "Polished Bliss" everything you'll ever want to know about car car on there & sell some of the best products on the market.

  • To help with the two bucket method use a lambs wool wash mitt, this way when you rinse off in the rinse bucket all the bits can be taken of the mitt,a sponge will hold in particals which will caus swirling - hose her down again... all over
  • use my soft silicone squeegee to rub off excess water - possibly a waffle weave drying towel and then use soft clean towel - micro fibre (usually the mrs' one!!) to rub the car dry

Just a thought, been looking into this detailing for a few weeks now even invested in a PC

p.s Car is looking sweet Si

I used to but over time and listening to advice off here things have evolved slighty....

Lightly pressure wash the car, Wash with a shampoo that is recommended so not to lift the car wax straight back off, I used to use a mirco fibre towel but now use a lambswool mitt.
Pressure the car back over lightly and dry with another towel, I used to use an old bath towel but have now got a couple of drying towels made for the job.
I use a different cloth for washing and drying the alloys, remove them from time to time and wax them as well... I do not use any acidic wheel cleaner anymore either.

It sounds a little **** I admit but it is suprising how quickly you can clean the car and maintain the finish like this... ok this was a big clean due to clay bar and new polish added but I don't expect it to take me a couple of hours tops from now on washed and waxed.

Simon

Tell me about it..... I have recently picked up a runaround it's the best thing I have done due to a colony of around 70 seagulls on the roof in work it resembles vomit when it hits and it gets someone good most days of the week.

Do that and it will be sweet as

I know frayz I was looking at that now it's not my daily runner in time all these little jobs will be sorted out, not sure what to do with them as yet.. may take the scoobyslammed approach and paint so much of them out or I may simply look into what's available to detail them. I'm off soon from work and I am planning on getting the pressure washer under them anyway.
I'm open to suggestions

Darren my engine bay is in need of a clean but I'm not confident enough to do it myself it's not rotten by any means it's just got a lot of the dust that you pick up all over it.

Future Project

When you come to do the engine bay Simon, take off the insulation (sp?) on the underside of thebonnet and give the bonnet a good scrub. I saw this on a few of the guys on our MSOC stand @ autoshow. (unless you have done this already?)
