amateurs at work.. (installing a VF34) :)
thought I'd show you that story too which happened a few weeks ago..
two crazy swiss amateurs, my friend being a office-person and me going to university, trying to destroy an EJ20 or something..
The Turbo that caused the whole thing:
the first problem was solved fast and creatively:
Intercooler and Heatshields gone.. and then it was the stupid screw on the right side of the turbo/DP-connection..
..which made the following necessary..
(with both of us never having done that before.. but it worked..)
fight with the screws between the downpipe and the center section:
(lifts are for wimps )
..and..and..and..
those screws are in the dumbest of places sometimes, ain't they?
group shot
well, then we discovered that the original intakepipe was garbage and so I started to try and get this stupid thing out, while my friend went to get the replacement (BTW it was sunday.. thankfully another friend hat one.. although it was about 2 hours to him... (again, thanks a lot!!)
those are stupid screws too:
tried some special ways to keep the servopump out of my way:
finaly it was out:
it took a few tries to get the new one in, because it had to be shortened on both ends and the connections aren't quite in the same place as on the original part
so we had to rearrange the hoses:
at this point it was 2 in the morning so we called it a day after having started at midday..
well.. next morning.. it suddenly went a lot faster although I was alone.. my friend had to work..
and pretty soon I was able to start it:
later discovered that the only thing (stunningly) that I'd forgotten was to fit that metal brace (english?) on the cooling fluid hose that connects to the top of the turbo.. so the juice was dripping all over the turbo. But that was topped up and closed so everything is well.
And that 34 has now been running for a while and is a stunning difference to the VF29 that was in there before!!
BTW, as I arrived at home on monday afternoon, this thing was lying in our living room.. first thought someone had killed some small person..
regards, Martin

Backbox is the Prodrive PPP one I bought here on scoobynet..
Gonna be swapping back and forth between that and my P1 backbox 'cause I can't decide which one I prefer..
