Angry Consequences of Ceramic Pads

I installed new front Disks (Camskill Vented and drilled) and new pads (EBC Red Stuff Ceramic) just over 2 months ago.

For the last week I have been feeling a vibration when braking (thought it might be build-up of material on the disk) today i had a good look at the brakes and found......

To say I am annoyed is an understatement, I dont expect disks to crack after 2 months use.

Anyone else seen this when using Red Stuff Ceramic Pads?

Its a fairly well known fact that a lot of drilled disks crack when used in conjuction with ceramics, are the disks just re drilled standard. Were you just using it for day to day use? I had this happen with standard subaru disks and pads i ended up getting the godspeed kit.

The standard kit doesnt enjoy autobahn use

Not much help now i know but, i would use grooved only with those type of pads

Is that through just normal road use? If so then take issue with Camskill, they have always been helpful with me.

Bit late now but drilled disks are a no no IMO, grooved is the way if doing heavy use.

All drilling does to disks is weaken them and in some peoples eyes make them look good.

Casting the holes during the manufacturing process is another matter.

I used RS Ceramics on my old and heavy Prelude with Brembo blanks, tracked the car, no problems. UK Turbo, RS Ceramics/standard blanks, no problems. RA - two sets of RS ceramics after a few heavy sessions at Castle Coombe and the Dartmoor stages with EBC Grooved disks, no problems.

It's those pesky drilled disks mate, they break .

But it's cheating with the hammer!

The only car I had drilled disks fitted to was a Cavalier 2.0 16v, the disks were ok with that, but then the only fast driving that car done was motorway miles.

Don't think i'd fit any drilled ones to the STi

Give Scott or Mike a ring at Camskill. They will sort you out.

Hi I used the ceramics and they have killed my v7 STI discs in about six months, just bought new discs and ferodo pads from Ian at Godspeed really good price. But i have heard a few cases on Scoobynet about ebc ceramics being very harsh, really sorry yyou have had this experience.

I used EBC RSC's on my 03 WRX PPP and they only lasted 6k miles The OE ones that they replaced were over half worn when I got the car with 20k on it (don't know if they were the original pads from new, probably not) and did a further 8k from half worn. I replaced the EBC's with Ferodo DS2000 and they are performing much better. 8k on them so far and 4-5mm still visible, just as good as the RS at stopping too.

If used with the Ebc grooved & spotted discs there are no issues, As all above have said, it's well known for drilled discs to crack !!!

If you use the EBC discs they are not drilled all the way through only little dimples so this reduces/eliminates the risk of cracking. Also are you running the pads and discs in? The pads have a break in layer which makes them get too hot at the beginning.
