Default Heat Vents

http://www.etsracing.com/News2.html

Been thinking of getting rid of my scoop as with the FMIC it's redundant. Thought about just meshing it EVO style but have just spotted the options above in a different thread. Anyone have any photos of there bonnets with a variation on the scoop?

Cheers

Chris,

1.21s by the end of next season I reckon. Do you think getting rid of the scoop will give me two seconds . The scoop's going, it's acting against the flow of air optimum for a FMIC hence the post.

Might be up for a visit to the Pod next year if you're up for it - all this talk of QTR mile times has got me thinking how close to 11s I'll be. I'll PM you Jonesy's address buddy - at least before Christmas.

ok forget the track times mate but the POD is the place to be
done it twice now and it's so much fun. but if you get close to 11's I will eat my pork pie hat

plans are afoot to get a few choice mods myself to better my current time so we shall see what next year brings.
nearer the time why dont we hook up when we are making a run up to the pod and we can catch up then.
pm him address anytime, the pedals are ready and waiting.

Why not use the bonnet scoop as an air intake for the induction kit? Assuming you have one of course??

I've seen this on a couple of cars and imagine it's effective, but I've got a Viper on mine with air drawn from the wing as per standard. Good idea though.

It's a very simple concept Christopher - you give me a time that you don't think I can beat and value it according to how confident you are. I will then choose to accept or decline. The only reason you might not wish to do this is because you are, in fact, a big gay boy and the girlfriend and kids thing is a smokescreen

ok I will respond accordingly to your low and slightly poor comments

I understand the concept of a wager perfectly, it is not hard for an educated man like myself to comprehend, although I do realise that the level of common sense and intelligence down in plymouth is somewhat stunted and so will make allowances for that fact

I also suggested the wager as it a) something I can put up and b) is a properly well thought out and high value wager, which compared to your holiday to Turkey which is a) not yours to bet (unless you got a job recently as a travel agent) and b) has no value whatsoever and frankly is an insult.

Also I am showing immense faith in your ability to actually drive all the way up to the pod in one piece and on time and then go and do a cracking low time with no previous evidence of such timings.

Now put em up

oh and on topic again.
one of the pics showed the main scoop and two mini scoops, but you mentioned that your viper system is in the wing, so surely the two mini scoops would be redundant as well???

the reverse scoop is a good idea for keeping your screen warm though

I don't really understand what you are trying to do by turning the scoop around other than making it look a bit odd.

If you are trying to remove hot air from your engine you will only be slowing the process down by turning the scoop around.

Will it make much difference aerodynamically, how fast do you go? It aint no F1 car.

Daz

PS Steve, you've got seagulls coming out of your exhaust.

£10 I come in under 13 secs.

I don't want mini-scoops and both my vents are blanked anyway so you are correct Chris.

Daz,

The idea is that with a FMIC I don't need the scoop and so would rather it didn't scoop air that i don't need and would rather it drew air out of the engine bay. It's not for aero dynamics, it's not for looks, it's purely and simply about adjusting airflow to reflect the fact that I have a FMIC. HTH.

Steve,

Daz is right, you really ought to get that seagull problem sorted.

This was the one I was thinking of

to illustrate.

My car on the left used to have a TMIC hence the scoop. The car on the right has a FMIC and so the clever chaps at Mitsibushi put a vent in and i'm trying to replicate this.

I've even considered that Grant but they don't come in ally unfortunately. I thinks steve's looks unique but it's probably not what I'll go for. I'd really like to see a pic of the one ive posted up if they're out there.

Ahhh, yea, there is a fair difference in weight from the STi Ally Bonnets and the UK Sport Bonnet.. D'oh!!

The one you're considering does certainly look a little "smoother" than the reversed Scoop does.... would be interesting to see what it looks like on a car, it reminds me of the vent that the Blob-Eye WRC cars run in front of the TMIC Scoop.

Grant

Think about it like this.

You turn the scoop around to let hot air out right.

The air will naturally rise to the top of the engine, then leave the rear of the scoop under its own power. Possibly assisted by a slight vacuum created by air going over it.

You leave it alone.

Cool air will enter the scoop at 70mph + or whatever, rush past the turbo and downpipe cooling everything on its way. Then leaves beneath the transmission tunnel as it was designed to with the top mount in place. Not having a top mount now equals an even better flow of air.

Forced induction in its simplest form. And it still looks pants. (IMO)

The WRC has a FMIC hence the vent

Wt about a sport bonnet with the lifting kit? Less drag and heat loss from the back and sides?

Just to jump in with my 2P

When all the GTIR lads went FMIC crazy, the theory was that the big scoop on the bonnet caused negative air pressure within the engine bay and reduced the effectiveness of the FMIC becuase air could not pass over it properly. The air being forced into the bay by the scoop flowed in at a higher rate prevented the air flowing through the FIMC into the bay.

Might be complete tosh but SE Nissan developed the Turini bonnet which removed the scoop and had 4 vents pointing back towards the windscreen.

Like this :-

Nice one, so that's me, Mitsubishi, SWRT and the GTI'r fraternity that are thinking along the same lines then

Allthough looks aren't terribly important to me, I want a solution that's going to look reasonably discreet. I wonder what the one in the picture would look like painted
